Almost a week

Wow, I can't believe it has been only six days since I found MIP. Things have been going a little more smoothly lately, almost smooth enough to forget there was even an issue. I found a nearby meeting, but because I was trying to secretive, I ended up taking care of the kids while he was out somewhere. His drinking is not as excessive, but he is still drinking and driving. Our trunk smells like a recycle bin and the beer is tucked away with the spare tire (nice).

This morning I found a bottle opener in the glove compartment and showed it to him. He said it was used to push the hubcaps into the tire or something. I had to laugh. How stupid does he think I am? I pulled another one from the side pocket and a third from under the rug and said "wow, those hubcaps must be in bad shape". He told me to shut up. I smirked at that too but he looked really cranky with me so I let it go. It was too early to get into that.

Anyway, reading other stories here helped to put things into perspective for me, especially the part where I can't control his drinking. Man is that a load off my chest . I want to work more on myself, so I can be more independant, rather than crying in a corner whenver I can't take it. I have an application for a driver's permit, which is HUGE for me because driving terrifies me (for a few reasons).

Actually, I haven't cried since I came here and started posting. Thanks Guys!

Jamie,

Congratulations on making your first week & for the driver's license application.  So glad that you joined our MIP family & really glad that it has helped you in dealing with the affects of alcoholism.

Hope that you have a great weekend & that you are able to do something nice for you this weekend.

One Day at a Time,

Rita

Hi Jamie, welcome to alanon. My husband began driving last year at age 35. Please, vow to always wear your seatbelt. You can do it!

Thanks, it always makes me feel better to hear about other...um...late starters. Being unable to drive has made me very dependant on others, especially in this small city with poor public transportation. That's why it's so tough when my H drinks; he doesn't draw the line when it comes to drunk driving. It's all denial- "I wasn't drinking...I'm not drunk...". Funny, I never really thought of it as denial before, I always thought of it as lying.
