For my friends that knew Gracie (fatgirl)

(((friends)))

Over the years in chat I've mentioned my "fatgirl" and shared pictures with my friends of my old sweet dog.
Sadly, I had to put her down today. She was my constant companion through the years when my A lived on a bar stool. I'm not looking for pity by posting, but more to acknowledge her life and all the years of love she gave us.
Bye Bye Gracie Girl..

Oh, Christy, I am  so sorry.  But I' m glad too, that she had you and that you had her.

My kitties, too, are my constant companions.  They kept me company when my daughter was first out on her own, driving, and I would sit on the couch with my eyes glued to the front door knob, so I could finally relax when she walked thru the door!  They have shared my bed when  my AH left  me, and comforted me thru endless hours of fear and loneliness.

Sometimes I think our pets must be Alanon embodied, providing us with love and warmth when we need it most.  Giving us unconditional love, and loving us when we could not love ourselves or anyone else around us.

I'm sure she was one lucky pup to have had you for a mom.  May she romp and play forever in Puppy Heaven.

Love in Recovery,

Becky1

((((((((((Christy)))))),

Oh hon what a beautiful animal she is.  I like to think of her up there with my beloved Muskie, and hubby's Snoopy all frolicking together and swapping stories about us crazy humans!  She was lucky to have you, and you were blessed by her life.

Hubby, Pipers Kitty and I will say an extra prayer for you and Gracie.

Love and blessings to you and your family.  We love you!  Here's to you Gracie for taking such good care of Mom.  What a good dog.

Live strong,

Karilynn, Hubby & Pipers Kitty

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Author unknown...

Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers,

Andi

So sorry for your loss my friend.

I know how much she meant to you.

I can imagine how special she was to you. My friend Norbert the Cat has been with me since before Al-anon. He was just a kitten when my wife and kids moved out and he got to stay with me. I am sure he was put in my life to help me. He is a great loving friend to come home to everyday.

I share your loss.

David

I can relate ... a loyal friend who was there with unconditional love through the toughest times ... I know that feeling, I've been there, and will be again with my beautiful aging girl dog.
A wonderful life ... I'm raising my teacup to Gracie.
Much love and hugs being sent your way.

Bless Gracie. Wasn't it wonderful that she was with you when you needed her the most? When I walk home from work I start feeling down because I known that my husand won't be there. I don't stay there for long because my 2 dogs see me coming and get so excited. Then my cat sees me and comes to greet me. I am lucky.

In support,

Nancy

Christy,

I just had to respond to you post.  My BJ who was a Bichon mix was with us

for 16 yrs had to put him down June 20 this yr. It of course was very painful

Its just like losing a "close" family member. Trust me I do know what u are

going thru. It does get better. I found a Christmas ornament this year thru

our newspaper magazine and it had a Bichon riding on a sleigh and I had

to order that to honor our BJ. It came the other day and it is beautiful.

Looks just like BJ.  What a nice memory of him...Luv Busbe

I'm sorry.  That is such an agonizing decision to make, but I'm sure the right thing to do.  Your happy memories of your pet will carry you through.

Hi Christy what a beautiful girl she was and so lucky to be loved by someone so special.  As I am writing this I am sitting with my own two black and white girls.  You have given Gracie a wonderful gift by not allowing her to suffer.  I am thinking of you and sending hugs.  LUv Leo xxx

I'm so sorry for your loss. I was In the same situation two years ago. My wee jack Russell was 15years old. It tore me apart. I lasted three weeks without her, and I got another one. She now gives me all the love I need from her, and she has SO many traits like the one I lost (lol). It's almost like a part of her Is still with us.

I know It's a clich'e but It does get easier.

Love Ally:evileye

People say DON'T get another one, but If you get the chance DO IT, It's fills a major gap In your life.

((((My dear friends))))

Thank you so much for the responses. One thing about Alanon, there really is no situtuation that someone doesn't understand. I can't help but think Grace waited for me to get home from my trip. My daughter had been staying here with my son and my dogs while I was gone. She later told me Grace wasn't doing too well but she didn't want to tell me while I was so far away.
Fatgirl had been suffering from congestive heart failure since last summer and was on several meds 2x a day. I know I would get little giggles from people when I told them she was on lasix to help with water around her heart and ace inhibitors..lol I guess it is kind of funny.

Yesterday I noticed she wasn't getting up to go potty when I woke up and being on lasix she usually really had to go. I tried to get her up but she just fell over. She weighed 65 lbs so it wasn't like I could just hoist her over my shoulder. I got a towel and fashioned a sling around her belly and we walked that way. Me holding up her rear end and her using her front legs. We made it down the stairs, sort of, and got outside. She peed while I was holding her rear legs in the air in the sling. Such a good, good girl.

We got back inside and I guided her over to her bed. Which by the way, that picture of her is in Louie's bed, the Jack Russell. She had her own larger bed but she always chose to wad herself up in Lou's bed with her butt hanging over the side..lol

Grace always got up and followed me around the house. Even when her arthritis was bothering her. Our family room is in the basement and I would tell her to just stay there while I ran upstairs, but nope..she'd follow me up and then right back down. Several times she slid back down the stairs trying to get up w/o help. Yesterday she would just sit and cry because she couldn't follow me.

My vet had sort of prepared me for what could happen concerning the CHF, but I think she had a stroke during the night. I knew it was bad when fatgirl wouldn't take her meds wrapped in a pc. of turkey. Her rear legs were like rubber and useless. I made the decision to free her from her misery.

I have the most wonderful Vet. She specializes in geriatric dogs. She had prepared a room by putting a big soft comforter on the floor. She explained what her process was and said she would give Grace a sedative to relieve her of pain and allow us to spend time (about 20 min.) with her and enjoy eachother. I was so grateful that Grace would be pain free, unafraid and relaxed for the first time in a long time before I had to let her go. She gave me a dog brush (which Grace loved) and I brushed her and talked to her, cried and hugged her. I recalled the walks in the woods we used to take when she was younger. The romping and playing she did with my son when he was small and the bond we had as my son became more interested in girls and cars. It was just me and the Fatgirl going gray together :)

I can't tell you all how much I appreciate you acknowledging her passing and what a sweet and loving Fatgirl she was. Thanks also to the special friend that sent me a very loving e-mail of friendship and caring.

Ally..I have a 1 yr. old jack russell and if you have one you know one is plenty..lol
Grace was the Grandma, she just hung out and watched Louie create havock.

Thanks again everyone, you all are close to my heart.
love you all
Christy
