From my experience, what some call personality disorders are the symptoms of being an Addict. When they don't use, they still have the symptoms of aism.
Aism is NOT the product of an mental disorder. There are clearly genetic markers that show a person is an addict and or has the potential to be one. It is not just one marker but more than one. The more you have the more chance you have to be a full blown addict.
There is a test now, regular swab the inside of your mouth test.
Twice I saw it written "getting them off the booze" sorry does not work that way. NO one gets them off the drug they choose except them. There is no getting them off the booze unless you take them to a deserted place, backpack away, put them in jail, etc. But unless they are ready they will go right back, almost the minute they get out, they know where they are heading.
As far as self medicating, they do that becuz they are A. I self medicate but don't reach for Alcohol or illegal drugs or scam pain meds. An addict will.
An addict will go to the doctor, get meds to control a migraine and not take it becuz it is not a narcotic.
I appreciate the subject and your view. I have not only read it, I have lived it and sadly seen many friends and family die because of it. You could give my A all the anti depressants you want, all the lithium you want, all the medicine he needs for his mental illness, but he still will use becuz he is an addict.
You can give me all the healthfood you want, get me super healthy, perfect weight, keep me in a gorgeous place. soon as I get home, I will make me a tofu cheese cake. to them drugs are their passion. That is what they live for. period.
I could use the analogy better for me, Take me and put me with just people and nature with not one animal. Bring me back to my home and I will run to the barn to be with my horses and pigs and everyone.
once there was a world that people were not suppose to be clowns. There was an underground clown group who would play and be silly climbing out of tiny cars, pigeons up their sleeves.
One got caught, she forgot to take her red nose off. She got put into Clown rehab. Later her underground clown friends came to get her in the little car, all sad, she comes out of the building walking slow in normal shoes, normal cloths, normal professional dress,normal rose pinned to her dress....friends gathered around her, patted her back. tears rolling down their faces...
One leans down to smell her rose and SQUIRT!! Gets sprayed in the face, then she pops her red ball back on her nose, takes off her hat and her curly orange hair glows and they all jump and are so happy, climb right back into the little car and off they go.
You cannot take the clown out of the A. just cannot do it. not ever.
((((Deb)))) glad to read you again! Your post was wonderful, I loved how you describes Aism.....perfect. Hit the old nail right on the head! I can just picture all the little clowns gathered around their clown-friend. That is just how it is in the A world.
