al-anon intervention

i am wondering why it is that everyone who loves an a will consider going thru with an intervention for the a but why are there no such things as al-anon interventions. we all know people who could benefit from this program. why is that no one ever gets together and confronts the enablers? i say this half jokingly. it is just me figuring out again how i could control my ex inlaws and what they are doing to my ex. laughable i know. but at my meeting tues. i heard an a who is pretty new to al-anon sharing about how her family enabled her and her disease and she didn't get help until they completly cut her loose. she was not at all blaming her family. just the way it was. all she spoke of was her part in using them to keep herself going and then how when they stopped she had no where to go but down and she finally got help. i shared this with my ex ah tonight when he called. i put a slightly different spin on it because i don't want to come across as preaching, or know it allish. ok that looks silly in print too. but it is where i am today. aagghhh step one.......

Al-Anon intervention ????  interesting thought but would probably be about as sucessful as an intervention on a practicing A. Until I see that my life is unmanagable it wouldn't have mattered what or who said what to me. It simply would not have applied to me. ( in my mind )

we get here when we get here and I pray every day for those of us who need this program and never get here. the best way I am told is to work this program and be an example of the way this can change your life. We lead by example  and our program like AA is for people who want it not those who need it .

They say it is a program of attraction, I believe that.  For me it took about 7 yrs of someone encouraging me to come to Alanon.  I had to "hit my bottom" before I could enter the doors.  As far as my MIL, at first she fought the idea that her son was an Alcoholic, she picked my kids for information about my "meetings" until I told her to ask me if she had questions.  Now, though she still doesn't want to admit that her children have drinking problems, I hear her say, beer is just as bad a liquer.  She offers to watch my kids while I go to my "meetings."  And I see her looking at the situation in a different light.  Though she still enables and guilts my A, it is not what it was.  She's also starting to call crap, crap when she sees it, lol.  (not turning that blind eye.)

I hope that part of the change I see in her is from the changes she sees in me.  That is the attraction of this program.

((((((((Serendipity)))))))))),

An interesting idea.  But like an A, they have to want to get help.  They probably don't think that they are sick when they are in the thick of things.  An intervention with an addict is only going to work, if somewhere in the back of their mind, they realize that need help.  That they are powerless over alcohol.  Guess it goes back to Step 1.

Live strong,

Looking back, I remember some things some people said, that at the time I just brushed off - they just didn't know how it was, couldn't understand, blah blah. I am sure that if someone had held an intervention for me, I would have denied everything.

Sure is tempting though....I know some people who could use it, hmmm
