What's in your tool box?

((((((((((Family))))))))),

I am one of those women who loves a good tool box!  Must come from all the theatre work and the years I spent with my Dad watching him in his workshop.  I love the smell of sawdust.  Take me to a lumber yard, and I'm yours for life!

I have my fishing tool/tackle box, my kitchen tool box as well as the family tool box.  But I also have added my Alanon tool box.  Now I like unusual but useful gadgets in my tool boxes.

So besides the very useful Alanon tools that we pull out on a daily basis: ODAT, Let Go and Let God, Detachment, etc... I am wondering what other unusual but useful tools do you have in yours?  I'm always looking for a good one to try.

Humor was mentioned at this morning's meeting.  Love that!    That's definitely going in there.  I have my Camel Coin to remind me to walk with my head held high.  I also have a saying that I use as a signal to hubby to stay away for a few minutes because I did something really stupid and can't find the ability to laugh at it just yet.  I say to him "I'm having a ketchup moment."  That comes from when I broke a ketchup bottle and it went all over my clean kitchen and me (of course I was wearing white).  Now I laugh, then I didn't.

So, what's in your tool box?

Love and blessings to you all.  Can't wait to see the answers.

Live strong,

Karilynn & Pipers Kitty

((((kari)))) get back in that toolbox!  How many times do I have to tell you!  LOL

Funny you should mention it, I LOVE hardware stores too. Sometimes just go in and browse.  And, I love tools, too.

Seriously, my toolbox is crammed with all of my Al-anon buddies, thru this site.  Any time day or night, I can come here and talk, scream, cry, laugh, or brag!  I can read, reply, post, chat, and get an education in life that is worth everything to me. You guys have pulled me out of the muck I was living in.  HP knew I needed the right tools for the right job, so He gave me YOU!  And I am so very lucky!  So, Kari, what "tool" do you want to be?  The screwdriver to tighten my loose screws?  I'm gonna keep you guys busy!

Love in Recovery,

Becky1

I think the most important tool in my box, hands down is my sponsor. There is no woman who has filled more holes in my heart than her, if only because she has given me a safe space to feel feelings, explore old thinking and behavior, and to grow from mistakes. She has also given me permission to free myself from the old tapes of my child, specifically the  "not ______ enough:" not pretty enough, not skinny enough, not smart enough, not good enough, et cetera. By validating who I am with where I am at as a child of god in perfect process with my higher power, my sponsor has shown me that my parents were/are human beings rift with short comings and hostages to a disease that they probably would never have wanted to be associated with, given their druthers.

I think the second most important tool is the steps. Having continued to work the steps with my sponsor gives me more and more freedom within my skin. It wasn't until I began working the steps that I finally felt safe within myself. I was perpetually searching for the external solution for the internal problem: rather than actually looking at the pain and grief I would use chemicals, driving, whatever, just to escape. I simply didn't feel safe in my skin and couldn't believe that anyone ever felt the way  I did.

The last tool in my box is a tie between the literature and the slogans. Often times, I need the literature to explain the slogans! Because I over think, over analyze, over feel, I tend to complicate what was never complicated to begin with. But when I am in perfect/optimal spiritual contact with my Divine Sprit, the slogans just click, no thinking or explanation required. The other times...well, it helps to know somone else thinks just like me! :)

Christy rummages through her toolbox and pulls out....

A hammer, so I can keep pounding in my head the necessary things to maintain peace.
A screwdriver, *puts that down* Screws are lose and stripped, Too late for that. :)
A level, my favorite, to keep me balanced.
A chalk line, to keep me on the right path.
A measuring tape, to measure growth.
Sandpaper, to keep smoothing my rough edges.
A Drill, to make holes for steam to escape.
A bottle opener..*dropkicks that in the field*
