New, Blue, Confused

New, blue, confused, that's me.  My husband is a hardcore drinker and has been for many years.  He can't stay off the sauce for more than 90 days or so.  He went to treatment on the 19th of July because his long time friend and I confronted him with his out of control behavior.  He was doing good work there when he had a medical emergency (not related to drinking) and had to have minor surgery.  The treatment center would not let him come back for the final 4 days but arranged for him to go to outpatient treatment.  They are so rigid in their rules it's too bad because he really was making progress for the very first time.  He trusted his counselor and the group of men he was with.  Now, I must tell you that he has been drinking for 45 years and with forced retirement increased to drinking at least a 5th a day.  His councilors don't hold out much hope for his staying sober without intense involvement in a treatment program and AA.  I don't hold out much hope that he will spend the money it will take for him to enroll in an outpatient program.  His assessment appointment is this afternoon and he will have to make a decision then.  His friend and I have told him that we will not stick around to watch him drink himself to death.  It is not going to be easy leaving him.  I have been trying to go to alanon but it seems that the meetings are mostly during the day, when I work, or a long ways away.  I was hoping to find an online meeting that was conducted during the day Pacific Time so that I could take my lunch and join at work but haven't found one yet.  Does anyone out there know of one?

I'm sorry to hear you are going through this.  45 years is a long time, but somehow HP works miracles.  Your story is a little familiar to me even though my A has not been drinking as long as your husband, same scenario in confrontation.  It needed to happen, and I think his friends would have walked had he not made the decision to stop drinking.  He's not in a program, and that is another matter that HP will have to work out.  As far as meetings I'm not sure a friend of mine told me to check out soberrecovery.com  they have forums and other things that might be helpful for you.  I am limited to meetings as well because I have young kids so I read posts here, literature, and stay in prayer in meditation.  I am getting healthy, its taken a while, but I'm making progress.  Keep coming back and keep working your program, the answers do come.

Hugs,

Twinmom~

I don't know of meetings, but our alanon chat room is open 24 hours. Usually there will be someone there to talk alanon talk.

coming here and reading the board is a great way to get your alanon food too. If you look on the bottom of the page it says who is here, you could try to pm one of them and see if they would like to pm with you.

Also manyof us post our email on our profile. Ya click on our name, then click on profile. If you caught me I would email ya back and share your lunch with you, but I am almost a complete vegetarian so bring some soy youghurt with raspberries please...

hugs, and keep coming back!! Oh my A is like yours. you can email me anytime.

love,debilyn
