breathalyzer

Hello

I am new to this site....I have a long term partner who seems to have struggled with alcohol since I have known her.  I feel lucky in so many ways because there is no abuse and in fact she is always kind, considerate and caring whether drunk or sober.  The problem is that we have a new baby son 5 weeks ago and I worry about her drinking and the impact on him.  I can't always tell whether she is drinking or not and she only admits it if I catch her.  I want to buy a breathalyzer and she sez thats a great idea because she sez she has stopped drinking now and wants me to trust her

Any input would be appreciated

KC

Welcome to the board !! This is a great place with a lot of very wise people.. In alanon I have learned not to focus on the alcoholic but to detach and focus on me. I am not sure how you would do that ??.. Is it possible to have someone with her when she is alone with the baby ? I am not sure if that will work for you but as a parent your job is to protect your child from situations that may harm them. For me I try not to leave my husband with my children alone.

My thoughts are with you, i hope you find the answers that you are looking for...

Your in my thoughts..

KC,
Welcome to the MIP board. Glad you found us.

I can understand about your concerns for your baby if your "A" has been drinking. If your "A" is sober now may be a good time to talk about boundaries with her. About drinking when she is around the baby. Set some boundaries that make you feel safe and that you can stick with. That is if you think it will work for you.

At this site we do not give advice, just offer suggestions and share our ESH (Experience, Strength, and Hope) with one another.

I know my "A" would be resentful if I got him a breathalyzer. You said your "A" is open to it, then if you think it will work, why not?

Take what you like and leave the rest.

Yours in recovery,

Dolphin123
