laughing at myself!

I was thinking how precious laughter is to me.  I didn't show up at alanon laughing, and I am very, very grateful for the laughter I have gotten from this program.  I always say my best program comes when I laugh at myself.  Got me to thinking about that, and I wanted to share this.

When i was learning to mind my own business (this took me a while with my kids)..My sponsor had given me a hula hoop after we had talked about how a hoop can be a reminder of the space that is my business.  Inside the hoop was mine...Outside wasn't!

I had gone thru a really hard day of trying hard to mind my sons business, tying him up in my apron strings, in my worst controlling way ...and as usual it all turned into a huge mess!  Sitting alone crying, I was thinking I should have worn that hoop today...Which lead to the thought...The next time i slipped up like that,  I would wear the hoop all day!  I started thinking about wearing the hoop to the bank, post office and somehow in my head, by the time I made it to the grocery store produce department, the thing had grown bright red suspenders to hold it up ....I broke out laughing...the tears dried up.. and i moved forward.

I will never forget that day!  It always puts a smile on my face

Do you have one to share?

((((Greta))))

What a great reminder!  Thanks for sharing that.  I used to be great at laughing at myself.  I used to laugh at others who take life too seriously.  Forgot how to do that at some point in my life.

I need those reminders!

Take care of you!

Greta,

If I ever see a woman with red suspenders attatched to a hula hoop, I'll make sure and say hello.

I laugh at myself alot, I think everyday . But not really in a bad way.

Ok, but here is a real funny one.

Last Tuesday I picked up my car (the first time) from the shop. I had permission to get off early so that I could run home and grab the car seats for my kids and I needed to leave early enough so that I could beat the traffic home and not be late for daycare.

Well I had no traffic and got home 30 minutes faster than planned. So I cleaned out the car, a sack of empty transmission fluid bottles, and went to throw them away. I had the car keys in my hand along with the sack of trash. I dropped the sack of trash and went back to the car to take off to get the kids. I couldn't find them. I walked back to the dumpster, and sure enough right on top of the sack I just tossed in were my keys.

No I had a problem. There was no way I could reach in and get them, and there was no way I could hop in, I thought about it but was scared I'd get stuck. And then I thought about how that would look. LOL. Being stuck in the dumpster.

Well I couldn't figure it out, then I saw a teenager who lives in the apartment complex. I asked him if he wanted to make a quick $5, he said "sure" and then he went and got the keys. I Thanked him and gave him the $5.

LOL the whole time I was laughing at myself, my car has been down since the end of May and I finally get the dang thing fixed, and the first thing I do is throw the keys away. . Hmmmmmmm maybe my car doesn't think I appreciate it and that's why the tranny started acting up.

LOL,

Yours in recovery,

(((((((((((((Greta))))))))))))))))),

What a great story! What a great sponsor you have. I was hoping you were going to tell us that you went outside and actually used the hoola hoop! I'd pay good money to see that. Thanks for the reminder and the giggle!

Live strong and silly,
Karilynn

I agree,,laughter is the best source of medicine. When we have been affected by anothers addiction, laughter is something one does not do. Alanon has helped me overcome that hump,,and laughter is back in my life thanks to this program. I make fun of myself, and as I get older my visualization of myself, I share with friends, only to lead in hysterical laughter. Thanks for sharing the hoola hoop story,,,now I ask you , have you tried to do the hoola hoop?,,,,lol,,dont put your back out! Take care , gardengal
