Oh My Gosh,

Hiya roomies,

I just got off the phone with my daycare provider. And she had a very serious tone in her voice. So I was a little freaked. Here is our conversation.

Day Care Provider (DCP): Prepare yourself

Me: Crap, who is it this time (I have 3 kids)

DCP: The middle one

Me: Great, what she do this time?

DCP: To herself.

Me: Well at least she did it to herself.

DCP: She cut her hair

Me: She cut her hair?

DCP: Yeah a chunk off the front.

Me: giggle

DCP: Are you laughing?

Me: Yeah, it figures she would do something like that.

DCP: Well right now is the busy time for the teachers. Kids just waking up from nap, cots being put away, sleeping bags, and potty time.

Me: It's okay, this is something she would do.

Hehe, oh my gosh, all I could do was laugh and the funny thing is, I am not mad. And the funny thing is my day care provider was so relieved that I wasn't mad. And this wasn't even something to get mad about. I know my daughter and it so easily could have been me that this happened to. She saw that the teachers were distracted and saw the scissors, and grabbed the oppurtunity.

My only concern was okay, if she needs a haircut because of this, is that rewarding her?  The last thing I want to so is reward her for cutting her hair. So I went down to a different office here and asked the ladies that run the parenting classes here. We all had a laugh and then they suggested that if she needs one we get it done, but she has to go to bed a little early to make up for the time I hadn't planned on spending to get her haircut. And I liked that. So that is what will happen.

What is the point in getting mad. Why do that to me, the daycare, and my daughter? The kids are in a great place and are well taken care of. And like I said she could have done this while at home.

And at least she didn't cut someone else's hair.  OMG, I think then I would have been scared about the other parent!

LOL I am think of the slogan "How important is it". It's hair, it will grow back. And my daughter is going to spend the next few hours freaked that I am going to be mad about this. LOL, that is probably punishment enough

Yours in recovery,

Dolphin123 (Mandy)

Hey (((Dolphin)))!

Great job! Isn't it wonderful when we can just see something for what it is and not blow it all out of proportion????

Who knows! Maybe she did a really good job of cutting it! Maybe it will start a new hair style...woohoo!! LOL

Thanks for sharing!

David

Hi Dolphin,

   Not an uncommon thing

I had something similiar happen to me when I was in 1st grade. I had very long hair my mom would tie up in pigtails everyday (and it would hurt everytime she brushed my hair) anyway, one day i was at my friends house while her sister was babysitting us. My friend got these new scissors for arts and crafts, but on that day, she wanted to play hairdresser.

Well, about one minute later my pigtails were gone. i didn't see my friend for a little while after that.

My sister recalls being called into the main office at school , my mother had called the school to tell my sister not to laugh at me when she got home!

My niece recently cut her bangs too.. a bit too short!!!

You're right, it is hair and it does grow back!!!

love, christine

gtta love it , as a retired hair sylist I have repaired a few of those myself . My fav was two little girls came in with mom  they had cut each others hair  mom was just sick , so as i was finishing the last little girl , her older sister was standing very close to me and had been duriing the whole process and leaned over and said to her sis . I have been watching her next time I know what to do.!!!!! I laughed so hard when explaining it to mom and suggested she keep all scissors out of thier way .  what a riot those two were.  good luck  and grateful you were not angry at her .  Louise

Now let me guess, is she 5?

almost every four or five year old cuts their hair usually the bangs!

It always amazes me but now I take it as another milestone.

Maybe she needs some more talk about scissors but not so sure about cutting her hair. Have you told her not to?

I wouldn't make that big of a deal about it. Pick your battles ya know?

giggle. My daughter at that age took some scissors and cut "everyones" whiskers off. i mean the horse, her pony dogs cats goat, I could not believe they let her! love, debilyn

Debilyn,

Hehe she is 4. And I was waiting for this day, and I knew it would be her!

Yeah we will have a scissors talk tonight over dinner.

I did it to, but not my own hair. When I was little I had this barbie that could have short hair or long hair, and I gave her a hair cut and saw how much fun that was so I gave all my barbies and dolls hair cuts. My mom was hot.

You're right I need to choose my battles and since the really is  typical kid thing, I choose not to make a battle of it.

Just to be safe I'll keep an extra eye on Pepper the rabit tonight

Yours in recovery,

Dolphin123

Dolphin,

Boy, does that bring back memories. Maybe it was Abbyal that I took my daughter's to after they played "hairdresser".
Both of my girls decided to cut off their curls when they were 4 and 5 1/2. I walked in to their bedroom and saw a pile of blonde and auburn curl mixture on the floor.

My oldest daughter had my shirt on as a smock with scissors in hand. The youngest was seated on a stool and her bangs wer cut about as close to her head as possible. I used it as a great photo opportunity. That pic still makes us laugh..lol!

They outdid Edward Scissorhands.

I'm glad you laughed too..."accept the things I cannot change"..this would be one of those..lol

love ya
Christy

As a daycare worker, I know how some parents would react to this - you bet the provider was relieved.

I have a hair and recovery story myself. My young teen daughter had been agitating for years to dye her hair black (she is a natural ash blonde) I resisted, "wait til you're older", then "Maybe don't go black, I'll let you dye it red", etc, etc, Then, after a couple of years in the program, I saw myself. Why was I making a big deal about this little thing? I told her she would have to use home dyes, as we can't afford the trip to the salon, and she has had black hair for about a year. The payoff? It looks great, much better than her natural colour. The real payoff? We are not spending these difficult years for a mom and daughter, fighting over something that does not matter.

((((((((((((((((((Mandy)))))))))))))))))))))),

Oh it's all in the perspective isn't it?  Hasn't every kid cut their hair at one point or another?

Hehehe, memories of my childhood when I cut all of my bangs off!  Boy was Mom mad!  But I told her that my bangs need cutting.  To this day, I can't stand it when my hair gets too long, but I don't cut it off. I mean it could have been worse. When my Mom was a little girl, she cut her cat's whiskers off!  Poor thing kept walking into walls.

Thanks for the giggle and reminder about perspective.  Love and blessings to you and the family.

Live strong,

Karilynn and Pipers Kitty (I have not cut her whiskers off!)

Dolphin, I think you handled the situation superbly. Kids do silly things, they do odd things, they do things that make you go "huh?" I think you did so great. I'm so proud of you letting go and taking it easy, especially with all that's going on for you.
