MMMMM....That new car smell!

Hello everyone!

I just bought a new car! Woohoo! Well, I bought it last Friday. A Sunburst Orange, Dodge Caliber. I feel so releived, to finally have the deed done. I have been looking at the kind of car I wanted for the last month...and yep....pretty much obsessing over it. Trying to get the model, I wanted set up the way I wanted, color, transmission,,etc etc etc. and of course wanting to get a good deal! Not wanting to be taken advantage of.

It ran in my head constantly. I would go to bed at night knowing exactly what I wanted to do, then wake up the next morning and the first thought would be...do you really need a new car anyway? Sheese!!!

I tried turning the decision over to HP finally, and guess what? He he he. He took care of things. I don't want to bore you with all the financial details HP worked out to satisfy my need to feel like I was getting the car and getting a good deal...but it was amazing how the mathematics of things worked out so that it all fell into place for me the way I needed it to, to feel comfortable.

But the most blindingly bright moment came the evening before I finished the deal. I had gone down to the dealership after work to have my old truck appraised for trade in value. I was sitting inside chatting with the salesman I was dealing with, and we were just chit chatting about this and that. He started telling me, that he had been in sales for 20 years now. He said he still gets so excited everytime he sells someone a car. After all this time, it is such a happy moment for him. Then he tells me, that he often sees people so darned caught up in making sure that they are getting the best deal..not getting ripped off...turning things over and over and over in their heads....that they take all the fun out of it!! I mean here you are buying a new car!!! Something exciting, and they can't enjoy it! (saaaaay...was he talking about me!)

Well he had me! Man did he nail me to the wall!

Once again, I just started laughing along with my HP. And it was like this big weight lifted right off my shoulders. He was so right! I had already done all the footwork. I knew I could afford the car a month before! Sheese, sit back and enjoy the moment for pete's sake! A new car! wooohooo!

From then til the next day when I said good bye to my old truck and drove off the lot in the Dodge.... I felt calm about the mechanics of the deal, and excited about the new car (I don't care what the commercials say...its cute!).

Thanks HP, for letting me know to stop and smell the roses again! Thanks Al-anon friends for opening my ears so I can hear when HP speaks to me.

And special thanks to those close friends out there who have been patient with me the last month

Come on down to Texas, we'll go for a ride! (ayup da air conditioning works fine, so you wont melt!)

Yours in recovery,
David

WOOHOO!!!!!!!

I can certianly understand this excitement.  On May 26th of this year I bought the first car I have ever owned all on my own. Registration, insurance, all of it in my name.  This is quite a feat as I am older than dirt!! Not really but over 40.

My baby is not a brand new car but is new to me and I did it and I paid cash.

ENJOY the moment.

WOOHOOING with ya!

Good for you David! Drive that brand new car safely and in good health. Sometimes that urge cannot be satisfied any other way than to go and get the darned thing. The salesman, (ahem...hate to put it this way but...you know me) could feel the commission check in his back pocket!!!!!!!!

Not long ago, my British partner and I couldn't resist purchasing a white, vintage Rolls Royce. He, being properly British, says he is going to use it to take brides to the church. It would be perfect for that, as it is in mint condition. And he would be the perfect British chauffer. He thought maybe using it for a little business might help pay for it. Yeah, you right. A 12 cylinder engine guzzling gas at three bucks a gallon is scary!! But it's fun, and you only live once. And, with 17000 original miles, it still has that "new" smell we all love so much.

Glad you allowed yourself to go for it. Orange huh?

Best wishes, Diva

I love it when someone takes the time to share something good and exciting.  Kind of like your salesman -- it's nice to share in someone elses joy , I'm so happy for you!
