Thinking about trust, inspired by C2C, p.341

This is the quote from p. 341:

No one can control the insidious effect of alcohol, or its power to destroy the graces and decencies of life. But we do have a power, derived from God, and that is the power to change our own lives.

I was thinking how I trusted almost everyone unconditionally, until two marriages to As.  My ability to trust closed down to new people.  I expected most everyone to lie, sneak, and hurt me. My work in recovery has helped me to see that each person is different, and not everyone behaves like alcoholics.  I do have a more open mind now, and have made a wonderful new friend from my alanon meeting.  In the alanon closing it says if we keep an open mind, we will find help.  Grateful member always.
