Help needed

My partner stopped drinking about 1 month ago. He has been on a home detox programme. I don't know what is happening to him at the moment. It's like living with 2 different people. One minute he's ok the next he's a mad man. Never seen him like this before. It is breaking my heart. He was fine yesterday when I got home from work. Bed time I went up he was fine. When he came out of the bathroom mad man again. I asked him what was wrong and he said nothing wrong with him. He couldn't even stand up. I asked if he had taken anything he said no. What makes them change just like that. He got into bed and starts talking to himself. Then says you don't love me anymore. I said I did but didn't like the person he had changed into. Have never had this experience before so don't know what to do. All night long talking in his sleep. He doesn't work and is sleeping during the day and then I can't sleep because he is just talking all night. When he is like this he keeps saying why are you picking on me. I'm not. This is now making me poorly cannot sleep or eat. When I have said this and told him I have been loosing weight he just says I need to which I don't.

Can anyone help.

You are not alone, and you are in the right place.  He has stopped drinking, but is he participating and any type of recovery.... AA or anything?  It is wonderful that he is getting sober, despite the demons he is fighting right now, but... Al-Anon is for your recovery.  This is a family disease and effects everyone.

Remember this, You didn't cause this, you can't control this and you can't cure it.  He may say all sorts of things about how this was all your fault... but it's not.  If he relapses he may blame something you did or said for it... but the blame is not yours.  As he trys to cure himself he may say many things that don't make sense... and they are just that, nonsense.

The only person you can do anything about is you, and this group is here to help you do that.

Try the online chat meetings, there is a link on this page.

Above all... Take care of you!  That is your only responability.

Here are some things that have helped me since in the program.

  • Go face to face meeting & online meeting.
  • post on the board here on the site. I have gotten a lot of good feed back.

·        Set support system.  people do not judge. You need someone who can go for coffee on a bad day, or pick up a phone and call when in trouble. The support is what is important when you first this program.

  • Have a sponsor. Someone work one on one with you.

You don’t have to do this the minute u come to the program but I suggest that u do it when u can. It help.

Meeting schedule: meetings are in here and run approximately 90 minutes from: Monday-Friday, 9 am and 9 pm EST, Saturday: 10 am and 9 pm EST, Sunday: 10 am and 7 pm EST. Topics are selected by participants at meeting time. UK +5 hours, central -1 hour, mountain -2 hours, pacific -3 hours. Open chat all other times.

Thanks for that. I have now realised I have to look after myself. I can only be there to try help him. He really had to help himself. I told him I cannot tell him what to do in life.
