This reading is about learning to be honest with ourselves so we can grow spiritually. It's not easy to admit someone we love has a drinking problem and we are powerless. Many things are beyond our control and that's why we need a power greater than ourselves.
Honesty has many positive aspects--admitting we need help, making amends, exploring our attitudes and actions each day, and letting us be humble. Honesty is an essential part of the 12 Steps.
I practice being honest. I want to be an honest person both for my recovery and in my relationships with all others. My spouse in AA has a long way to go in this dept. The quote implies you cannot have dignity without honesty.
