Newly sober spouse

My spouse will celebrate her 1 year anniversary in August.  Of course it is not an easy path.  But I've noticed of late, that she is shopping and eating in excess, I assume in the place of alcohol.  I know I cannot control, change, fix, or anything else.  I just have to watch what is taking place and focus on my mental and physical health.  Has anyone in the membership experienced this kind of behavior in a newly sober alcoholic?

Hi Lyne,

I did notice that my ex started shopping a lot when he was newly sober. It wasn't previously in his nature to make purchases like that.

So perhaps if the alcohol is gone, that's all we can expect one day at a time. Is your spouse still sober?

Sorry, it's your ex. You may not know that answer. But thanks for your reply. :)

Hi Lyne, It does appear that it is the usual of one day at a time. in many ways, early sobriety can be a difficult space, but it is often temporary as there are so many adjustments.

I spent time waiting to see, but unfortunately was in the early days of my program. I haven't been in touch with my ex in years but I do hope he has found some peace.

I'm glad you have the skills and tools to focus on your serenity. Sending positive thoughts to you both at this time.
