10/3/23 C2C Compassion – Defined By What it is Not

Struggling to define compassion, today's writer knew it was not the ugly behavior that had been showing their loved one at times: yelling, name calling, revenge seeking, throwing things.

Compassion does not mean accepting abusive behavior from the alcoholic, but it certainly does not mean handing out abuse. It does mean understanding that they are sick and suffering from a disease.

Reminder - I can learn to be the kind of person I would want as a friend.
-------------------------
This concept of compassion is powerful. Regardless of what others have done, even to me, they are still a child of god, no better, no worse.

Who am I to deliver punishing and ugly behavior upon them in judgment or impatience?

Grateful for the reminder to work on me

Thanks Paul for your service and a great share. It was at first a balancing act to stand my ground yet be compassionate to my A. This program has taught me the ability to forgive. I've forgiven an ex husband as well as an abusive brother. I've learned that to hold onto anger is only hurting me. I also have decided to treat others the way I want to be treated. I have to work on all of this, especially with my A. Progress not perfection !
