Courage to Change September 7 Alanon topic - Service

Today's reading refers to Tradition 7 as it applies to being of service in Al-anon groups. Al-anon is self supporting and contributing  financial support to Al-anon is important but in order for Al-anon and Al-anon groups to continue to thrive, members must commit to participate in service to their groups. The reading reminds that rotation of service is important in Al-anon groups. It gives an example of an Al-anon member who had performed service within their group and was interested in stepping down after their agreed upon time of service expired. When no other members volunteered to perform the service for the Al-anon group, the meeting end up closing. The member found other Al-anon groups that were flourishing and thriving due to following Al-anon Traditions.

The reading states, "I believe as that as we nurture our groups, we nurture and empower ourselves. We can make s contribution; we can make choice that help us to allow healing in ourselves and others. Continuity of service is part of our common welfare."

Today's quote reminds Al-anon members that aside from financial support, a commitment to offer service through giving their time and moral support.

Thanks TT for your service and share. Without service, alanon would not exist. I have always been grateful to the others who did the daily shares for us. I always looked forward to them. When we had a full 7 days of service shares, that was great. So I have been happy to be the Monday person. I also lead meetings for my F2F meeting and appreciate all the folks who lead. If I want to receive, I also need to give. It's actually quite logical.
