C2C, Monday, August 21, Searching for the real me

Today's reading focuses on unexpected benefits from alanon:  living according to my needs, loving myself as a new found friend, learning about detachment, and understanding that many of my problems come from minding everyone else's business.  Learning to take responsibility for my own life, and staying out of others' affairs, allows me to find the real "me" on the path to serenity.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Accepting myself as a new found friend, was a completely foreign concept to me.  After many years of disliking myself and treating myself with verbal abuse, I didn't think I had a chance at self-like or self-respect.  My sponsor along with the entire program approach, taught me that if I can treat others the way I want to be treated, well heck, I can treat myself well also.  And as the reading said, these are some of the most unexpected yet rewarding benefits of alanon.  Self-love--I never imagined.  Grateful member.
