Todays reading is a description about a successful way to approach working the steps. The writer describes two concepts: surrender and faith. In the first, the writer acknowledges that letting go and surrendering the things we are trying to control will free us and help us let go of our egos. Putting our trust in our HP is an act of humility and will help us live in grace and serenity. The second concept of faith/trust is about believing that our HP is looking out for us. The writer describes that when he/she forgets about faith/trust, what is left are worries to mull over.
This reading got me thinking about when I have felt most anxious, unsettled, unhappy; in most cases those feelings came from me attempting to exert my own will or control over a situation rather than letting it go. I know that I tend to be a ruminator, and when left to my own devices will perseverate over any given conversation or action rather than just accepting it for what it is.
Im thinking that when I get into my own universe as described above, it keeps me separate from others. An act of humility for myself in letting go and trusting will also contribute to the ability to live in better harmony with (myself and) other people.
The Thought for the Day sums this up: Al-Anon works. All I need to do is surrender my ego, act in faith, and follow the wisdom of the Steps. My Higher Power does the rest.
I am to the point where I have no choice but to let go of what I have no control over and trusting my HP. Life is just so much less complicated and chaotic that way.
