ODAT in alanon, Monday, 4/3, miracles in alanon??

This writer says that newcomers present with self-pity, resentment, and fears.  What they learn in alanon changes their outlook:  they gain confidence, poise, come out of their shells, and can concern themselves with others.  These results are nothing short of miracles.

Reminder:  The first gift a newcomer receives from contact with alanon is hope.  Seeing how others rise above their problems, listening to situations worse than their own, absorbing the atmosphere of love and good-will, send them home with a new lease on life.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Certainly the attributes above describing newcomers was me, along with anger and a desire to control and change my A. I was miserable most of my life.  I still have problems, flaws, and don't cope well every single day, but I have really moved forward with recovery.  I've let go of trying to control others, my anger and resentment have come down many notches, I like/love myself even though I still have defects, and I can laugh. I keep coming back as I strive for progress not perfection.

Thank you so much Lyne for your service and for sharing your experience, strength and hope.

Yes those "attributes" of a newcomer are definitely a description of myself as well. And like

you, everyday I live and learn a little bit more on how to live with poise, grace, humility and

humor. Daily reading and coming here to share with my MIP family always points me in the

right direction. I too struggle everyday, but that struggle is always short lived with the

knowledge of Al-Anon and the guidance of my HP. ODAT!

Good Morning Everyone. Thank you Lyne for your service/ESH. Debbie, your share is like a warm blanket on a chilly day. I've been up since 4:00 a.m EDT thinking/wondering (yikes) why I've got this free floating anxiety the size of a football in my stomach. Then I realized, I am sick! I asked HP for help and next thought was self care-go to the gym. Work project and neglected chores around the house can wait. HP will take care of my loved ones. Guess what? Anxiety eased. Thanks MIP /Al-Anon for tools to get me through the difficult moments. Have a wonderful day.
