Some people judge their self-worth by their accomplishments and on what others say. In this manner, a sense of satisfaction is fleeting. But another part of self-worth can be by their ability to love others--saying a kind word, writing a considerate note, or just by appreciating someone else. We can feel good about ourselves without evaluating our achievements or relying on others.

My transition into adulthood was fraught with fear and doubt. I did not have a consistent or good sense of self. I often relied on others to define me and that's a train wreck waiting to happen. Over the years I did improve, but it is this program that has given me a sense of consistency about myself. Do I make mistakes and mess up at times? Sure. But especially the work with my sponsor allowed me to see a whole self, good and bad, and achieve a sense of self worth from the way I treat others: the same way I wish to be treated.
