The material presented
here is not Al-Anon Conference Approved Literature. It is a method
to exchange
information, ideas, feelings, problems and solutions on a personal
level.
The member says that the effects of alcoholism are a disease that effect us physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Checking in with ourselves about our well-being is done by asking ourselves these (and other) questions:
-Is my physical well-being a priority? -Do I eat well and get enough sleep? -Do I go to the doctor and dentist?
-Do I ask for or give a hug when I need to? -Am I growing more aware of my feelings? -Do I have a sponsor and program friends to help me through rough times? -Can I celebrate when things go well?
-Do I have a relationship with an HP or am I willing to try? -Do I make time for prayer and meditation? -Do I acknowledge my growth?
Quote: Better keep yourself clean and bright; you are the window through which you must see the world."

There are more questions on p. 354 that along with these, are a check-list of outstanding goals. I'm happy to say that I do many of these much of the time. One that stands out to me is: Is any of the attention I once gave to negative thinking now focused on gratitude? I've made great strides on this one and will continue to be aware of, and work on, this concept. Progress not perfection ODAT!
Thank you Lyne for your service and all shares. This is a great guide for ensuring that I keep my priorities straight. I've found that increasing my prayer/meditation time results in efficient use of my energy. Going to the gym at least three times a week keeps me fit for tasks to maintain a comfortable home. I keep up with medical/dental, salon etc appointments. Another activity I enjoy is listening to music...lately I've been binging on Billy Joel ("River of Dreams" anyone? lol) I notice when life gets busy, I sacrifice Al-Anon meetings and studying literature. I will make an effort to change that pattern. Grateful for all the reminders.
