In todays reading the topic is the fact that through crisis we learn just how much the Al-Anon program and the friends

we make can facilitate our recovery.  The author learned that their "leisurely approach to the program" was not enough

when they lost someone close to them and that service, calling on Al-Anon friends, going to meetings and working the

steps took a higher priority.

Reminder:  "Sometimes the greatest growth comes through pain, but its not the pain that helps me grow, its my

response to it."  "Will I suffer through the experience and continue as before or let the pain inspire changes that help

me grow?"  "The choice is mine."

Quote:  "I had learned in Al-Anon to look for opportunities for growth in every situation."  "This attitude allowed me

to gain many spiritual riches from the pain I was experiencing."  ~ In All Our Affairs

I so agree with the spiritual riches acquired from working through the pain using Al-Anon friends, knowledge, Steps

and service.  I see that reward, not always at the time of crisis, but definitely later upon reflection.  So appreciate

the abundance of wisdom from the membership and the program.

Have you found this to be true for yourself as well?

Thanks Debbie for your service and share. In my field of mental health, we learned "no pain, no gain."Boy did I hate that! But this program helps me see that we can learn and grow from almost anything, if we stay open to it. I've come to realize how important my attitude towards everything is, and acceptance. 3 A's come to mind: Awareness, Acceptance, Action.

RE:

Thank you for your service Debbie and all shares. I am amazed that I climbed out of the state where I believed I could not overcome deeply painful moments. Al-Anon gave me tools to strengthen my relationship with my HP and people placed in my path helped me get through difficulties. Daily practice of spiritual principles enable me to respond with maturity when times get tough. As for awareness, acceptance and action, I often jump from awareness to action and that slows down my progress. Grateful for the gains-like an intimate relationship with my Mom.
