A Matter of Perspective – C2C – June 24, 2022

A great story/comparison in todays reading about a farmer who thought if he played his flute all day for his hens that

they would lay more eggs for him.  Well we all know how that one turned out and when asked he replied that the hens

did not produce anymore eggs but that it was a great day for music!  smile

This fable is suppose to help the reader see that perspective can determine successes/failures and how we see and achieve

happiness as well as fend off those disappointments.

Al-Anon helps us recognize how much we truly can accomplish just by being here for ourselves and each other.  We all have

the opportunity to change some of the most difficult circumstances by working the steps/sharing and turning difficulty into

peace, knowledge, and recovery.

Todays reminder:  "The finest gift I can give to ensure my continued recovery is willingness.  Each demonstration of

willingness, each meeting attended, each Al-Anon tool used, is a mark of my success."

Quote:  "Every good thought you think is contributing its share to the ultimate result of your life." ~ Grenville Kleiser

I am looking at my coffee mug, as I write to you all (my grand-daughter gave to me as a birthday gift last year) and it

says If all else fails pet a cat smile.  I believe that is what really works for me, when in the midst of difficulties, is to remind

myself of all the good I have instead of focusing on that bad situation(s).  Having the ability to come here on MIP to talk

things out and looking at all the good I have brings my perspective back to reality!!

Have you found that a changed perspective has changed your outlook and/or situation in trying times?

Thanks Debbie.
I love this! There are youtube videos of a farmer who plays trombone for his cows that I could watch all day haha. They love it!
But seriously, it is such a neat trick when we manage to find success in what we thought was only a failure. As well as making us feel better, we are more confident to try things in the future, or that's how it works for me at least.
I think the best example of this for me is the long period of time I spent failing uni subjects because I was literally being held hostage by my ex-A (or myself, or both). I was really drowning in regret over my "wasted life" for a long time; it got me very down and made me feel defeated. But my career path changed a lot and now all of that life experience I gained is more valuable than anything I could have learned in a lecture hall. I couldn't foresee that at the time, but knowing it now helps me have faith that other "impossible" situations might have hidden benefits too.

Thanks Debbie for your service and for all above ESH. I think of the phrase, make lemonade out of lemons. The more I dwell on negative stuff, and things I cannot control, the worse I will feel. If I can let go and let God, live and let live, and put one foot in front of the other, I can move forward. For me it's a willingness to try, and permission given to feel better. :)
