5/31/22 C2C - The Hero's Journey

Stories and legends often tell of a hero's journey of great challenges that result in lessons learned, character built, strengths discovered and treasure found at the end.

Today's page compares this to our spiritual journey guided by the principles and truths of alanon and our higher power. The specific direction and actual work must be completed by ourselves, and selves alone. It is by doing this that we experience the incredible joy and power when we step into the light of spiritual understanding and peace.

Reminder: Self-knowledge is the path to personal freedom. The Steps provide direction and help me cope with whatever my journey introduces to me.

"The world cannot be discovered by a journey of miles...only a spiritual journey...by which we arrive at the ground at our feet, and learn to be at home." - Wendell Berry
---------------
I would say that I don't recall feeling much like a hero on my journey, but when I pause to think about how much I have learned and grown it rings true.

The issues that I have at least come to understand, and often am able to overcome, were insurmountable before I found the spiritual strength and guidance of Alanon and my higher power. Now, even if I get knocked down or off course, I get up again and know the tools I need to employ to get back on track.

I used to think things were truly as bad as I thought they were. Now I know that is only how I see it in that moment...I have a choice. Change my perspective, change how I see the world around me...

Grateful for the guidance and wisdom

Thanks Paul for your service and wonderful share. I have learned so much from this program, and as a result have a much better attitude about life. My coping skills are improved, and much of the time I can be ok no matter what my A is doing. Progress not perfection--I'll take it!

Thank you Paul for the reminder that Al-Anon has all the tools to get back on track. My internal environment has been chaotic because I've been focused on fixing the outsides and leaning into non program people. Yesterday it dawned on me that just because my home group is only Zoom-which doesn't work for me-I can seek other meetings. Boy, did my HP come through! I am excited to have found an in person meeting nearby and I meet the Vax requirements. I feel relieved knowing I'm being guided back to solutions that work.

Good morning everyone

Seriously,it doesn't really matter how miserable I am feeling, just coming here and reading is always so uplifting. I am grateful for that, especially on days like today, when I am not feeling miserable. Sometimes we only appreciate things in the moment but this program is something that I am grateful for on both good and bad days.

Sometimes I am amazed at my progress and other times I feel like I am at the beginning. But I am grateful I can begin again at any moment and the tools are right there to help me along my path.
