how do you function after those sleepless nights?

coffee coffee and more coffee? Had a very hard time sleeping last night - besides my brother going for his pretrial today my boss is throwing even more changes my way. Some Im accepting easier than others. Some Im trying to adapt/rationalize/etc. Some Im trying to anticipate so they are less stressful on me when they do happen. I got up in the middle of the night to jot down notes as I often do when I cant sleep. So how do I get through this day? Got up at my usual 6am, it will be at least 9pm when I can sitdown again.

It is not easy to function when there is a lack of ZZZZZ 's.

As you said lots of coffee, also you may laugh. I've found chewing gum keeps me awake. Or nibbling on food.

When I used to get up at 0100 AM to get my horse bathed and braided to show, then drive 2-4 hr's to get there by 0800AM.

It made for a long day. The drive home was tough. I discovered the gum chewing thing. I thought it may be a brain/body mechanical connection. If one falls asleep while chewing one might choke and perish..........therefore while chewing gum, increased alertness occured for me. A friend who works 2nd shift tried it and it has helped perk up if the sleepy's came over her.Of course the best thing if your super tired is not to drive and pull off and sleep.

Hope you have a good day and get some needed ZZZZZZZ's tonight.

I find that getting outside for a bit really perks me up. However, the best thing is not to let those worries steal my sleep (yeah, easier said than done, I know!) Sometimes I use alanon techniques combined with yoga ones - meditation, serenity prayer, god box - and sometimes I just get up for a while, have some herbal tea, and read something soothing. Sleep is sleep, even if it is on the couch, with your book wide open on your chest. Sometimes I find that dark room too full of tomorrow's worries, but can sleep just fine on the couch in front of an old movie on TV!

Barbara,

One of my first checks are  HALT.

If I am Hungry, Angry, Lonely or Tired, nothing else works for me.  I try to fill those needs for which I have control over and then see if I need to deal with anything else.

Glad you keep coming,

Maria
