Hope for Today Jan 2

Good morning everyone:

And Happy New Year!  Todays reading is about the power of the serenity prayer. The writer describes this as the first tool used in recovery.  Not being able to alter the past, having the power to change our attitudes and resentments and having hope about the potential for our own changes are all concepts found in the words to this prayer.  The writer remembers a section of Courage to Change that describes the ability to look back (at the past) without staring.  The first time I heard this I figured it meant not to get stuck in the past (definitely one of my fortes), but instead it is described as looking back without feeling (staring).   Many of us dont face feelings out of fear of their power over us, but dealing with them is one way to let go of their hold.

The Serenity prayer has been a help to me in so many different situations.  When I feel overwhelmed or if my mind is racing the words calm me. When I feel emotionally drained I feel the strength in the words. When I am facing a situation out of my control I am reassured by the message in the words.  The thought for the day reminds us: The Serenity Prayer can bring light to the parts of myself still clouded by my past.

I hope everyone enjoys a peaceful Sunday and start to 2022:)

Mary

Happy Sunday to all - thank you Mary for your service and the daily...The Serenity Prayer is one of my go to tools just to pause myself, my thoughts, etc. and reconsider who is truly in charge and what healthy choice can I make in this moment.

I find myself going to it often simply because it's a prayer that's short, meaningful, inspiring and action changing for me.

It's super cold here this morning. Still hard to believe it was in the 60's Friday and we got to golf!

I did sit and watch Joel Osteen this morning - it's all about 'choosing to be happy'. I truly feel extra inspired when his message aligns with my program and speaks to me!! A link for anyone interested:

Make it a great day all!

Thank you Mary for your service today and to you and IAH for both your ESH!

Just love that reminder to "not stare" at difficult past issues, but to deal with them and then "Let Go and Let God".

So always grateful to Al-Anon/MIP Family for these daily readings!
