Not so merry...

After decades of using MIP's #alanon chatroom I'm sad to say that it has had a 'hostile takeover' by a narcissistic jerk and is no longer controlled by MIP.  The jerk using the nickname 'earthrocker' banned me from the chatroom, and I have no access to it.  He is exactly what an alanon chatroom doesn't need.  Seemingly, due to a lack of maintaining the status of the chatroom, MIP is now directing people to go to what is now his chatroom, not MIP's.  I left a message using the MIP contact email with no return.  I don't know who is in control or has responsibility maintaining the MIP website or chatroom(s), so I'm hoping whoever reads this can pass this on to someone who can fix this.  Has the MIP website and chatrooms been totally abandoned?  I donno.  Regards to you all.

Tahoe - your post appeared twice, so I removed one....as best I know, there is no moderator for the chat room area (formally). It's always been a different place - separate from the boards. I am sorry that there's an issue there and that you've been affected. I've offered the only thoughts I have on 2 other posts.

I noticed that it is part of the stepforum and not "secure"

12stepforums.net/alanon_family_group_online_meeting.html

who receives mail if it is sent to:

mailto:mip@12stepforums.net

in relation to the chat room?

Sorry for posting twice, and thank you for removing the duplicate.  I have some suggestions on how to fix the problem, which would be for the MIP website to direct the chatroom link to a  newly formed chatroom with a slightly different name, like #alanon_chat instead of #alanonchat.  First someone will need to set up a new chatroom, then change the links in the website to direct people into the new chatroom.  I wish my computer skills were good enough that I could actually help do this, but I can't.  Thanks again, and I hope you're Holidays are safe and happy.

Tahoe1, the only problem I sense with linking a new chatroom from MIP is that

this person(s) may take over that new set-up again. If MIP were to set up a

new chatroom directly on chat4all as the admin (do not know how the members

of MIP will feel about this) then there is a better chance that it could not be

taken over by someone else. Maybe some directions to chat4all for the chatroom

would be in order, but not a direct sign in link that can be commandeered like it

has been.

Tahoe I'm so sorry that has happened to you. Sounds hacked. Will revert in due course, just caught this.

Just FYI for all - I did open a topic for discussion in the business area.

It's for members only so if one wants to participate, you must join again.

Here's a link (cut/paste into your browser window):

alanon.activeboard.com/t68105271/mip-chat-room-issues/

Please keep coming back - we're pretty friendly around the boards too!!!
