Miracles in Progress Nov. 10

Hello MIP!

AL-Anon reminds today's author that they can only deal with one day at a time. Thanks to this reminder, they are able to be more realistic about what they can do to improve their situation. Thanks to this focus on one day at a time, the author is freed from a constant sense of urgency.

No problem lasts forever, and thanks to AL-Anon, the author knows that everything passes in time. focusing on what they can right now, at this exact moment helps the author avoid the constant urgency.

Today's Reminder: I can cope more effectively with difficult situations when I am realistic about my responsibilities. I have the tools I need to face today's challenges. I will trust my Higher Power with tomorrow.

Today's Quote: "Today is only a small manageable segment of time in which our difficulties need not overwhelm us. This lifts from our hearts and minds the heavy weight of both past and future."  One Day at a Time in Al-Anon

-----------------------

Living with a constant sense of urgency is something I am used to from graduate school. It seemed that there was always something urgent that I needed to take care of. Semester breaks were a welcome pause from the constant urgency. Living with an active alcoholic intensified this urgency. Focusing on what can be accomplished right now helps me to stay present and prioritize things. I'm thankful that the program has taught me these skills.

Thank you so much Skorpi!!

I wish I had known that with every challenge there is the knowledge that nothing does last forever.

One day at a time and being mindful of the present does displace that constant urgent feeling!!

Thanks skorpi for the reading and to you and Debb for sharing. I'm grateful Alanon has shown me how to be respectful of my self care needs. My physical and psychological wellbeing are priorities today. I once put those aside to first tend to the needs of other adults, often felt panicked even long after I no longer was going crisis to crisis. Like many in Alanon Im capable when a crisis arises but no longer feel an urgency to participate as I once had. I am no longer the fixer of all things and for that I am very grateful to Alanon. Today I value my serenity and balanced days. I prefer my sense of urgency from responding to win a game or some other fun activity or working collectively toward a goal with others. I'm grateful I've learned to ask for help from others and to have made some progress with planning ahead which can certainly reduce a sense of urgency and even at times keep urgency from becoming emergency. :) TT

Thanks Skorpi for your service and all above ESH. When I was new to program I thought ODAT was just a stupid phrase. Hah! No more. I love this concept and it helps me often. I have even broken it down to one hour at a time. I also have learned that whatever trials I may go through today, tomorrow is presents a new opportunity. Grateful member.
