Hope for Today July 5

Good morning everyone-

Todays reading is a focus of tradition 7, and the idea of groups being self-supporting.  The writer describes first interpreting this as monetary support, that no Alanon groups should be accepting outside donations. After some time the writer realized that it isnt necessarily monetary support that keeps an organization going.  Volunteering time to help set up or break down after meetings, collecting or passing out books, sharing or bearing witness in meetings -are all ways to contribute and support the program.

This page made me think about what contributions we make in our daily lives.  Are we helping the people around us with what we say, do, when we listen without judgement? Putting out good is a positive (karmic) practice, and also an investment in ourselves.  The end of this page includes a quotation from Courage to Be Me (p230), which sums this up nicely:

I had to make a contribution in order to get help. It wasnt a money contribution. It was I. I had to contribute a little bit of myself.

I hope everyone has a peaceful Sunday!

Mary

smile Mary and P. aww ...

One time I did the traditions with Betty- in the Steps board. This idea came up- the fact that any contribution counts.

It is good to know now that this idea is sanctioned with a Hope for Today reading.

It it true that many of our venues are supplied to groups at a modest cost. This is traditional. But everything we say

and do is ours. Our own unaided effort.

Sometimes I strike a problem solving issue. I have had one or two issues like this myself.

And this can only be resolved, if that is possible by the group conscience. Of the group itself, the individuals themselves,

and possibly by the Alanon organisation.

When we donate money we are financial members. This offers us rights and responsibilities.

aww Thanks.

Thank you Mary for your service and the daily. Thanks to all for your shares and ESH. I remember thinking much like the author - the financial contribution was most important...as time has passed, I have come to realize there are many ways to contribute, big and small, to Al-Anon at every level.

I do like how simple the Al-Anon pamphlet is about Tradition 7.  It helps me realize that showing up, welcoming others, a kind word, a simple nod all are contributions that contribute to self-supporting the group.

Happy Sunday to all - it's back to summer heat here!  It was hot golfing this morning and remains hot this evening.  I got to be of service to my parents who were having computer issues!  2 hours on the phone trouble-shooting and resolving while talking my dad thru the 'how to' steps was a great lesson in patience for me today...ha.ha.ha.

Love and light to all!
