Courage to Change 04/25/20

Today's reading in C2C talks about reaching out. Using the telephone to reach out to another Al-Anon member. In this day and age, we can forget that talking on the phone can be a good substitute for a F2F meeting! I know it seems kind of "old-fashioned" to actually talk on the phone, but there it is, ready and willing to offer us a lifeline. Many can feel reluctant at first. The reading speaks to this... it says, that many times, the call is beneficial to each person... the newbie and the veteran! Even a veteran can benefit from reviewing the basics. "Our strength lies in the fact that we learn from each other."

Particularly useful, is to make that call before a big decision to "talk it out." Then follow up with another call after the decision to "check-in" with your feelings about your actions. "For those of us who have always acted alone, this is a way to share our risks and our courage with others who will support us, no matter what happens." I love this part! No judgments! This action can help us to move forward with confidence.

Today's Reminder: I will reach out to another Al-Anon member today. If that person is busy or unavailable, I will make another call.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have used this tool many times with my sponsor. Sometimes, it is just contact through text, and that is OK. But hearing the voice... the confidence my sponsor has in me (that I may not have in myself) is what sets actual calls apart.
I really can identify with the quote, "Our strength lies in the fact that we learn from each other."
It is what we do here as well. Thank you for being a part of my journey.
It is going to be another Spring Scorcher here in SoCal!! I was going to putter in the yard, but I didn't wake early enough! So I am going to take it easy until the latter part of the day... we'll have to see if I get anything done! LOL! It looks like I am going to have to make a trip to the grocery ( I hate that, especially now) but I go around 8 pm. No lines, and virtually no people either!! Win/Win!
Enjoy your Saturday MIP Family!
Good morning MIP - thank you PnP for your service and the daily...I am more likely to 'text' others just to check in and do so daily. I call those who don't text or whom I need to have more discussion with. What is so lovely about 'modern times' is we do have choices and truly no excuses to not reach out for help or just to say hello!
For me, when my mind begins to swirl, the best self-care I can do is get on the phone with another in recovery or my sponsor and 'dump'. Just hearing the words, the emotion, the (possible projection, fear, etc.) 'dump' helps me be open to hearing ESH to assist with what ever is going on. I'm grateful that those who came before me strongly suggested the phone instead of sitting in 'it' when I was new - it continues to serve me well.
I made my list for Walmart Grocery Pick-Up for next week on Wednesday. I really like their process - add $30 to the cart, check out and then I can add/change as I need/want up until a bit before pick-up. The employees have been very pleasant and careful and there's no contact. It's working so well for me that I'm considering continuing for a long, long while. I also do pick-up @ Sam's Club. This has really helped limit my contact, grateful.
Make your weekend great all - off to the golf course shortly. (((Hugs)))
Thanks for posting this and sharing on it. I agree with u and "I ma Here" about the benefit of getting on the phone and hearing another voice that sees me as "whole" even though I may not at that moment. And about being "heard" since not feeling heard was an issue in early life---today is so different because of the arms and ears of love Al-anon offers. Happy and careful shopping! ---Luv
We have to correct our participation here at home also.  We go to meetings...give our number and don't take the numbers of other members.  How insane is that?   Hmmmm.   (((hugs))) confuse
(((((((((((((((((((PnP)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))) thank you for your service
Reaching out: Oh yea, to here, to a recovery mate, to a trusted friend, but knowing I am NOT alone in my struggles and my questions/doubts, etc., helps greatly...I think HP uses people, speaks to us through people, so reaching out to safe and trusted people is essential to me......................thanks PnP...Loved your share
