A meeting is a meeting is a meeting.....

Lots of changes with all this corona virus stuff. I belong to two fellowships and both of them closed their meetings. So, we started online meetings.  At first, we were all using a popular video conferencing app. then, there was talk of a lawsuit because the app was sharing information about its users without user permission. Anyway, I stopped using the app but that also prevented me from accessing the meetings. So, I did some digging and some experimenting and finally I found that one of our well-known social media apps also has a function for enabling video chat, so one of the groups I'm involved with now uses that app to hold meetings. It was good to see the looks of relief on the faces of the new people and to watch them joke and share and feel like they were part of something again.

I heard about Betty. That saddened me. She always tolerated me even when I didn't deserve it. I'll need a few more meetings than usual this week.

Awesome share Wolfie! We too have taken most meetings online and are doing extensive reach-out to those who are new/newer to recovery. I've always been told that when 2 gather, it's a meeting. Formal formats and F2F are golden and not replaceable ever, yet in times like this, it's so, so important to just connect and share any way possible.

Betty is on my heart/mind each day. Her unconditional kindness, perpetual smile and lovely heart keep me centered when I begin to waiver in my own efforts. She was such a shining example of a real miracle in recovery! I miss her greatly.

Keep stopping in - you're not alone!

I am glad you are finding a way to go to meetings!

I wouldn't let worries about the popular video conferencing app stop you from going to other meetings too. They have stopped sending data to the other app it was being sent to, and it sounds like it may have been unintentional in the first place (a badly-implemented login system). Any social media app probably does at least as much privacy violation (intentionally) as the video conferencing app was doing (possibly accidentally) -- in fact, the thing that the video conferencing app got in trouble for was sending device identifiers to a social media app!

If you really don't want to use the video conferencing app, you can also see a list of traditional phone meetings (where you dial a phone number to join) at al-anon.org/al-anon-meetings/electronic-meetings/

We all need meetings right now. i hope you are able to find as many as you need in a way that works for you.
