Do you still love me?

The question set my heart aflutter which can be dangerous at my age but I chanced it..."Yes I do...always have and always will" and I sat back and enjoyed the moment and feelings.  The question came from one of the most beautiful women in my life...my daughter who I was separated from when she was nearly two and her mom a religious fanatic.  Fanaticism the most terrible behavioral disease I have ever lived with including the diseases of drug and alcohol addiction.  Years later I would make amends to her religion for the rage and anger I displayed at the sound of their name and the numbers of members that would descend on my home attempting to "change me and all those who had not yet joined them.  One of their pastors told me that they had discovered that they have broken up many families with their behaviors.

My daughter is a member of their organization and respects the relationship I have with my higher power the God of our culture.  I am totally powerless now over them and have been for years and today my happiness surpasses any happiness I have ever experienced in the last 41 years of my recovery.  "Free at last....Free at last,  Thank God, Al-Anon, MIP.  I am Free at last"  Me and He.  ((((hugs))))  smileawwbiggrinwink

What a great story, Jerry. That's one of the things I love that Al-Anon gave me - an adult approach to the people in my life, I actually could love them (maybe some from afar), even if we had differing views on some things we decide are important. This is why I love the anonymity principe practiced in our rooms. When we keep our cultural, social, religious, political, economical statuses out of the rooms, we get to see how much alike we are, especially when faced with the disease of alcoholism.

(((Jerry)))

Just the Boost My Heart Needed this Morning ;) Thanks Brother :)

I'm Amazed at the Healed Relationships this Program has Gifted me, when I First Got here My FOO thought I was the Devil and Trying to Uproot All that was "US". I Walked thru Many of Hard Days Alone from My FOO Only in the Hands Of HP... It Took me a Long time to Trust that HP Was with Me! Even knowing it all Along, my Brain couldn't figure out Why... Was I Even Worthy of Such a HP...

I've Sinse Walked through Many of Relationships, and Even the ones that are No Longer an Everyday Relationship, that I have had to Set Strong Boundaries with, I Can Now... With Ease, Respect their Space, their Life, and Not be Bitter... I was Bitter So Long, its a Beautiful thing to Finally be in the Light...

I'm So Happy for your Blessing and I Can't Think of Anyone more Deserving then Such a Gift... As I Tell My Friends... "Keep Shining Brother... It Looks Good on You!"

So Glad Your Here

Jozie

Mahalo Family and Jozie I am impressed always to read that we have walked the same pathways almost exactly the same and then I was told often it could and would happen. I keep listening with an open mind and find peace and solitude.

I wake up to gratitude and thank HP.   (((((MIP))))) smileaww
