Courage to Change 1/30

Today's topic includes - One Day at a Time, Easy Does It and Think.  The reading suggests that living with alcoholism, we learn that plans could change at any moment as well as the rules.  Most of us develop a deep mistrust of everything and everyone as we felt we could count on nothing.

Al-Anon shows us a different approach - we can live 'One Day at a Time."  We can base our choices on what we feel is right for today, rather than based on what we fear we might lose in the future.  We can THINK before we react to our fears and remember "Easy Does It."  We learn to trust there will be other opportunities if we feel unable today, and if it's something we are meant to do.  It doesn't have to be now or never, all or nothing.

The Quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson --  "There is a guidance for each o us, and by lowly listening we shall hear the right word . . . Place yourself in the middle of the stream of power and wisdom which flows into your lie.  Then, without effort, you are impelled to truth and to perfect contentment."

Reminder:  Today I don't have to be limited by my old fears.  Instead, I can do what seems right.  I do not have to follow every suggestion or take every offer I receive.  I can consider my options and pray for the guidance to choose what is best for me.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I did arrive with very black/white, right/wrong, now/never thinking.  Learning how to live One Day at a Time, Trusting a Higher Power and making healthy choices for me and this single day has given me the freedom and peace that I never knew I could have.  The disease had been in charge of my life, decisions, actions, family, etc. for so, so long - even these simple concepts took tons of practice to put into action.  Daily, I still continue to ask HP for guidance and much more each day, remembering to set aside my own fears and will.
I am grateful for the program, the tools and the willingness I've been given to practice a better way of living, One Day at a Time.  I can keep life simple, one day at a time and pause to think what's best for me, just for today.
Happy Thursday MIP family - Make it a Great Day!!
Thank you IAH for your service and wonderful share. I too, am learning these lessons about pausing, thinking, and not having to respond immediately. I also ask HP for guidance daily, and turn my will and my life over because I made a mess of things in response to the bigger mess from alcoholism. I lived in fear and anxiety and it was a miserable life. Not now. Things will never be perfect but they are so much better! Hope and gratitude have replaced most of that fear and anxiety. ODAT, Lyne
Welcome Karenb68-Keep reading posts, write some if you are able to, and look for a face to face meeting in your area. Help is available through alanon but it is not instantaneous. It takes time and patience. Keep coming back, Lyne
