Courage to Change, 8/16 -- Self Care!

Today's page talks about the importance of self-care, especially when we are in a crisis and think we do not have time for it.  In times of crisis we need to be at our best. That is why we have to strengthen ourselves with good food, sleep, exercise, spiritual contact, emotional support.

Reminder: "I am the only one who can make my well-being my top priority.  I owe it to myself to pay attention to the needs of my body, mind, and spirit."

--------------------

I love what this page says about the results of self care:  "It can make a difficult situation a little easier."  Our literature doesn't promise rainbows and butterflies 24/7.  It is realistic.  We will have difficulties.  But we can improve our situation by making self-care a priority.  I used to think that self-care meant buying a new outfit or taking a bubble bath.  Now, I think spiritual/emotional support, hobbies, and creative activities are  a critical part of my self-care -- along with yoga!

My self-care for today includes going to a step study meeting and connecting with the people there. The drive to that meeting is along a pretty road, so I get to enjoy the scenery.  Then I will work on a volunteer project that's somewhat challenging (learning new stuff). How are you caring for yourself today?

Good morning MIP! Thank you Freetime for the daily and your service. Thank you both for your shares and ESH. I know today that I really, really try to listen to my body for my self-care! I have a ton of energy and that works well for me most of the time. I also know that my energy level can have me doing too much and then crashing, so I try to tune in each morning just to check on me!

My point - I opted out of golfing today simply because I am tired and I can. Self-care for me, just for today, includes some rest, relaxation, meditation and glamming! We have a large family party this weekend and I've got a house guest so spending time with my momma is also on the agenda! Life is good, and I am grateful to embrace how important self-care is for me to grow into the best version of me...

Happy Friday all - make it a great day!

Thanks FT for your service and all above shares. This is a very important topic and one that took me years and years to understand and put into practice. Today I walked my dogs outside which we all love and appreciate the exercise as well as the sights and sounds. This afternoon I am visiting my friend who recently almost died and is out of the hospital after a month. I've made him a beautiful get well basket and I feel good about visiting and bringing healthy nice things to help him heal. Tonight I'm making pasta for dinner made from chickpeas. I'm trying something new and I appreciate the growth I've gained from program. It's a good day! Lyne

Thank you Freetime for your service and a great topic.

Working my program, I'm continually trying to find new ways to take good care of myself. I eat healthy foods, exercise, yoga, meditation, hike/ walk in nature, and now making a point of getting together with people so I'm not feeling so isolated. I've been upping my F2F attendance as well as coming here and this has been extremely helpful. My overwhelm is starting to dissipate as I feel nurtured and supported.

Thank you MIP family!!!
