ODAT - July 19 - Worldwide Fellowship

I just love the July 19 page in ODAT.  It points out that our participation in Al-Anon makes us part of a worldwide network of groups that are all working towards the same purpose, and that what we do makes us brothers and sisters with people all around the world, regardless of nationality, race, color, religion, wealth, or poverty.

Today's Reminder: "As I talk with my hometown friends in Al-Anon, I realize that we are all part of something much bigger than our single group. I will remember and send loving thoughts to those in our thousands of groups around the world. This exchange will enrich all of us."

----------------------------

ODAT was first published in 1968.  I wonder if the author of this page could have imagined MIP -- where people from around the world share recovery and help one another, not just by sending thoughts, but by actually communicating via technology.  I know I couldn't have imagined it. I was a young woman in 1968, and the idea of having a phone in my pocket that could connect me with people around the globe and access information in an instant --  that was science fiction! The most advanced tool I had was an electric typewriter.

To me, Al-Anon itself is a miracle, because of the wisdom we willingly share and learn from each other, and how we can walk into a room of strangers and hear someone tell our own story.  But being able to do it across countries, time zones, continents, in real time --  another miracle, and I'm amazed and grateful.

Good morning MIP! And thanks for your service today, Freetime.

My thoughts were moving along the same line when I read about the worldwide fellowship - MIP is a direct line to AlAnon in many different countries. And despite the differences of living in various parts of the world, we find commonalities in our experiences, struggles, and journeys. I'm grateful to MIP - this group and the worldwide members were here to catch me when I reached out for help. I especially appreciate the differences in timezones, because someone is usually around, no matter when I log on.

Thank you for your service Freetime!

I LOVE knowing I'm part of something universal... anywhere I go, I am not alone, I can be understood, supported, and expand the use of skills and tools to live life with peace.

Thank you for your service Freetime and the summary of the daily! I too am thrilled and so grateful to be a part of this world-wide fellowship of equals looking for a healthier way to live and love....I am quite certain those who came before us did not have the ability to envision how technology has entered our lives - the good and the bad. Not only can we connect with others all over the world via MIP, it's instant! The sharing of ESH can be in real time....those who want help and support don't have to wait for morning or until the next meeting!

I do feel as if recovery has been a lovely gift in my life. I am not always thrilled with the disease in others, but have a deep, profound sense of peace, love and joy because this program has freed from heart from living in that fear, anxiety, resentment place I was stuck in for a long while.

Happy Friday all - it's been super, super hot in my neck of the woods! It's 7:30pm, and the heat index is still 109. We golfed early and it was still steamy, hot and exhausting! It's supposed to break for us tomorrow so those east of me, relief is coming! (((Hugs))) to all!
