The reading for Monday, 6/17, talks about surviving crises.  With alanon we learn that we can live and even grow through very difficult times.  Some of us worry about the future return of crises, and will our tools get us through again?  It is recommended to make the most of the day we have, trust recovery, the tools of the program, HP, and see how far we have come.

Quote from In All Our Affairs:  ...we may not recognize our progress right away, but the effects of working the alanon program are profound and lasting.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I have been through about a year and a half of instability with my A, never knowing what I am coming home to, and yet we continue in 12 step programs and counseling to try to save our 28 year long marriage.

I can say that at times I did feel hopeless and helpless, but these last few years in program have given me a new life.  It hasnt been easy, but I firmly believe I will be OK, I have many people to turn to for help, and HP is with me every step of the way.  I am not only surviving, but I am happy and grateful much of the time.

Thank you Lyne for your service and the daily. I can so relate to the wonder if/when/what is next and will I 'make it'!! I too can say that when I truly pause long enough to take stock of me, my recovery, life, attitude, etc. I am blessed. I would love to have sober, mature sons who are living life 'right' yet today, I can lovingly detach and give them to the God of my understanding. I could not do that or even comprehend that before recovery!

I too am happy and grateful way more than not! When I remain humble, open and trusting in the God of my understanding, those difficult times feel less stressful, painful, etc. than before! I go out of my way to avoid crazy/controlling people today and that seems to really push my buttons. I love that Al-Anon has given me choices - to respond vs. react and often the best response is no response at all.

Happy Monday - been golfing and going to tacos soon! (((Hugs)))

Thank you Lyne and IAH.  I know there are times when I think, "Well, if I was able to live through ____________, I can live through anything.  Each new challenge or crisis gives us the chance to practice our tools and know that we will get through it.....however painful it is at the time.  I also know that what I WOULD have thought of as a crisis years ago, I can now see a little more clearly, take a deep breath(s), rely on my HP and see it as, This too shall pass.  It isn't necessarily a crisis, maybe more of an unfortunate event of life.
