Courage to Change, May 31

Today's reading compares our Al-Anon journey to legends where a hero must face great challenges before gaining treasure at journey's end. We are the heroes in  our own spiritual journey of self-discovery.  We explore hidden motives, buried memories, and unrecognized talents. We use program tools to overcome obstacles, and are guided on our journey by a power greater than ourselves as we take our own steps. Only by facing the darkness can we receive the treasure -- the light and joy of emerging, released from all that has held us back.

Reminder: Self-knowledge is the path to personal freedom.

-------------------------------------------------

I love how this reading compares us to heroes -- not to downtrodden victims, but to brave adventurers on the road to a treasure. My own journey led me from feeling trapped in dark caves and drowning in stormy seas while pursued by scary monsters, to facing fears about seemingly impossible challenges, to discovering the help of my higher powers, to the life that I treasure today.

I hope you all have a wonderful adventure today.

Thanks Freetime for the daily and your service! This is a great reading and lovely to reflect upon. I do recall feeling as if I was in a 'war' and loosing badly before recovery. That doom and gloom person I was with the distorted thinking has been replaced by one who embraces each day as a fresh start on a journey towards personal growth and continued freedom! I am really grateful to no longer be a 'victim' but instead a valor in my own life.

I 'see' the reminder as: Self-knowledge is the ONLY path to personal freedom. Learning in recovery to put me first, examine my motives, thoughts, feelings, needs, etc. has shown me the path for my own serenity one day at a time.

Happy Friday all - off to golf in a bit and we've got some lovely outdoor weather! I love window weather and it's been lovely for sleeping and chores this week!!! Enjoy your day MIP - make it a great one!

Thanks for your service FT. This is a wonderful reading that can also see us as explorers, exploring ourselves. I had lunch with a friend yesterday who is in another 12 step program. We both discovered that we used to be afraid of everyone and everything. But now we can even talk to strangers. We agreed that we have joined the human race instead of letting our fears keep us in isolation. Lyne

Thank you, Freetime!  I also like the comparison of our journey to those of heroes.  This program certainly brings us to the treasure at the end of darkness with the guidance and reliance on our HP.

Happy Friday and weekend, all!

Ellen
