Courage to Change February 27

In today's reading of Courage to Change, the author reminds us that we don't need to map out our perfect plan for recovery, our HP has already done that. All we need to do is ask for HP's guidance and for the willingness to follow that guidance today.

The author also shares that there are things we can do to speed our recovery. They list: attending meetings, calling our sponsor, trying a new kind of service work, relax, meditate, exercise, read al-Anon literature, play, or eat a healthy meal. By focusing on doing what we can to take care of ourselves, we are speeding our recovery.

Today's Reminder: I can't control my recovery. I can't force myself to let go any faster, nor insist upon serenity. But I can take small actions to remind myself that I am a willing participate in this process. I have every reason to be hopeful, for each step I take is a step toward living life more fully. Today I will do something nice for myself that I haven't made time for until now.

Today's Quote: "If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours." Henry David Thoreau

-----------------------------

What a timely reminder for me! I have been reflecting on when my life goes well, and when it does not, and it seems that when I have a detailed plan, things tend to not go well. If, however, I set myself a goal or direction and leave the details up to HP, things tend to work out very well - better than I could have planned or hoped. I like the reminder that I can let go, knowing that I will walk serenely in the right direction.

I just discovered that I can get Al-Anon literature in eBook format, which is very exciting for me, since I'm stuck at home (ice) and my C2C is in my office. biggrin I hope you make today a great day!

Good Morning Skorpi Thanks for This extremely helpful list. I know when i entered program I embraced each as if they were a life preserver (which they were) and am ever so grateful for these suggestions.
Thanks for your service

Thanks for your service Scorpi. What a lovely reminder about asking for HPs guidance and then the courage and willingness to carry it out. We have a one day at a time program on purpose. I used to plan and make lists and honestly my efforts to feel better left me feeling defeated. With program, I have the attitude that each day is a new opportunity, I dont have to dwell on the past, and the future isnt here yet. Its so simple but brilliant at the same time, Lyne

Thank you Skorpi, for your service and the daily. I love that HDT quote!

Thank you for the reminder that all I need is an open mind, and the willingness to accept the guidance of my HP.

Happy Hump Day!

Thank you Skorpi for the daily and your service. Thank you and all others for your ESH and shares. We also have ice (again) and I am hibernating! This is a great reading and a timely reminder for me too. I tend to make a plan and forget who's in charge at times. I have been working on down-sizing, and it can get overwhelming to go through 20+ years of stuff, memories, photos, awards, etc. and trying to determine what to do with it. It does not help that I am a pack-rat AND have added stuff from relatives who've passed during the same time period.

If I just keep moving forward as best I can, and trust God - it just seems way less daunting! Happy Hump Day MIP Family - stay safe and make it a great day!

PS - Congrats. on the e-format for C2C - wasn't aware that was an option....thanks for the share!

Thanks Skorpi...

I came into Alanon in 1982- on the advice of my fiance. I had tinkered with Alanon before that- but there was no group in our town. They were building a big dam in our valley- and AA and Alanon came in with the construction crews.

My F said i would stand the chance- of having a happy marriage if I went to Alanon. And so it came to be. we are still married! It was not easy at all- seemed full of conflict on both sides. But along the way we resolved it. I would like to see overnight changes- and I am sure they happen once in a while. So that first meeting, that first step one paid off- over time. smile....

Thank you Skorpi and all MIP members above me here.

Today's reading is a great reminder for me. I cannot speed up my recovery, but I can take those baby steps a little quicker if I put in the work necessary on my end and listen/pay attention to my HP's nudges.  I have been in the program about 4 years now and it amazes me how far I have come in my thinking and approach.  I am far from and will never be perfect, but little by little the program is sinking in.   I thank you all here for being part of my process.

Snowy and slick here is western NY. Ran my errands this morning and am tucked in for the rest of the day/evening.  Hugs to you all,

Ellen
