Well I never....

In the 40+ years of recovery including being a therapist in a large in/out recovery program have seen this but once and that was this morning!!  It blew me away when the cake pastry past before my eyes as the husband handed it to his recovering wife as she celebrated her 6th year of sobriety as I had to speak up to it and mention to the room and couple that it was a sign of family recovery that for me is very important not that she is queen of the house but that the family is participating.  Both He and She are program friends and I have known him before she got into recovery also.  She is also a "double" a member of Al-Anon and AA.  We have more than just a few on the island and to see and participate in this acknowledgement of gratitude was so elating for me and others.  I had to thank them openly and then grab my piece of cake before it was all gone.  Thank you HP!!  I thought deeply of my former Alcoholic/addict spouse and prayed she continues in sobriety herself.

Thanks for letting me share...(((((aww)))))

Jerry - thanks for the share! It brought a smile to my heart....When one celebrates and is able to include family, it just gives me hope - every time! I am also very grateful as my family had disowned me when I was active in the disease. It's taken me 30+ years of continuous living amends to be a part of with gratitude, grace and joy.

I know how damaging this disease is to family. I am grateful anytime I get to witness the many miracles of recovery! (((Hugs))) - what a great way to start your day!
