Hope for Today Jan 20

Good morning Everyone-

Todays reading is about how our recovery is directly affected by the amount of effort we put into it.  The writer compares this to a student who may get by in school, but will have minimal results if the student makes a habit of skipping homework, staying up late, missing classes, etc.  For those of us in recovery, working the steps, going to meetings, reading the literature, working with a sponsor are all part of the work we put in so that we can work on our recovery.

The writer talks about choices we have- we can choose to go to a meeting or not, we can choose to do our reading or not, to work through the steps or not.

For me the greatest example of this is having a sponsor. My sponsor has been gentle, caring and understanding and has also held me to: working through the steps, making gratitude lists, being honest with myself, helping me see things even if I may not want to see them.  My sponsor has found a way to be objective and never judgmental, caring but never letting me slide. I am grateful for the work she has inspired in me and am grateful to my HP that she is in my life.

I hope anyone who has been affected by this most recent winter storm in the states is warm and safe-  and hope everyone enjoys their Sunday!

Mary

   Hi y'all Mary and Hotrod...

I think I tried too hard... ...was always good at book learning- but lacked the homework skills. And project skills.

I needed the group work and contact with others. I needed to learn to trust others, and Alanon gave me a good start. At this stage I am putting it all together- and working another programme as well. Sometimes I need to kick back and look back with pride... ...and yes... I still need a few checks... ...from time to time...

...not coasting... ...being open and receptive to new learning... hope for the future... smile ...

Thanks Mary for your service. For several years I came to the message board a few times a year, when I was in severe pain and frustration. I had no intentions of really joining Alanon, because after all, I could do this myself. WRONG! Of course nothing changed, and in fact, things only got worse . It's not until I truly dedicated myself to working a program, that eventually things came together. Of course things are not perfect, but things are much better in every way. Happy Sunday all! Thank you Mary for your service and the daily. Thanks to all above me for your shares and ESH. I know today from experience that I am more balanced when I just incorporate my recovery into my days/life. I have rested on my laurels and each time, I have ended up in worse head space and more likely to react or make unhealthy choices.

There are some things that I do every day - no matter what. Those include prayers, meditation, readings, phone/text discussions. My daily plan is compiled with these going on the calendar first. There are some things I do each week - no matter what. Those include my meetings, my writings, etc. I can get 'left of center' even when I just do a gals weekend or a vacation, so know I do better when I stick with a routine.

This applies to my self-care, my work-outs, my eating, my shopping, cleaning, laundry, etc. I just tend to be more balanced with routines. I am not inflexible and can go with the flow when needed - just know that my program and recovery comes first now no matter what.

It's a big football day around here! Spent some time this morning cooking so I can just watch/nibble/snack/eat for the 2 big games today! It's darn cold outside so am perfectly content hibernating inside! Enjoy your day all! (((Hugs)))

Mahalo Mary for the service and the daily reading.  I have been going to bed and waking up within meditations which has worked very well for me.  The process has been very spiritual with the intention of more growth in recovery.  There are not very many disturbances to my meditations while I am laying in bed connected to the program and HP.  The process is clearer and my disabled hearing doesn't interfere.  ((((hugs)))) aww

NICE share, Mary, thank you

Oh yea, I get from the program what I GIVE to it....sooo true...I notice on those times when I am goofing off and not doing my recovery, being mindful, etc., I really mess up...

I can stay within the guard rails if I be mindful that I am only emotionally sober ONE day at a time....
