Preparing for life:  The reading today compares oiling a saw to practice in program.  They said they observed what others in program were doing, and seeing how serene people could be with similar awful circumstances.  So they started applying the Steps, Alanon literature , slogans, meetings, and sponsorship.  The end results are that using program makes what they already have more useful, which leads to greater satisfaction.

Today's Reminder: Building a useful and fulfilling life is not an easy task.  Alanon helps me  learn more effective ways of living so that I can avoid needless difficulty.  With proper tools, progress is just a matter of practice.

Quote by Francis de Sales:  You learn to speak by speaking, to study by studying, to run by running, to work by working; and just so you learn to love God and man by loving.  Begin as a mere apprentice and the very power of love will lead you on to become a master of the art.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Two parts of this reading speak to me.  The first is that I remember the feelings I had upon joining program.  I was overwhelmed, anxious, depressed, angry, resentful, etc.  And when I listened to others and then told my story, I could see peace and calm among many members.  That made an important impression on me.

The second part of this reading that rings true is the phrase about learning effective ways of living so one can "avoid needless difficulty."  I can remember back to faulty ways of thinking and acting, that made everything worse!  I couldn't climb out of the hole I was in without help.  Now I get into messes much less often, they are less severe, and I can resolve issues much faster with less damage.  What a relief !  Lyne

Great reminder Lyne It is important to accept the simple facts that recovery is a process and takes daily practice and dedication.

Thank you Lyne for your service and the daily. Thank you and Betty for your ESH and shares. What I really like about recovery is that the more I practice it, the better things are/go. Life still happens, the disease is still around yet my responses are much healthier which does make it easier for me to get back up when tripped or knocked down.

I am grateful for the daily opportunity to practice and improve me. I am glad that others showed me a different way to live each day. Happy Monday to all - make it a great day!

Thanks Lyne for this confirmation how important it is to have stability, structure, boundaries, rules like what we have an Al-Anon. My life was so devoid of these beautiful things that I lived in constant chaos and confusion and fear and nothing made sense and nothing was of structure so therefore what was OK on Tuesday would get you a beating on Thursday

One of the reasons why I am growing in progress in this program is because the principles are the same day in and day out. The steps and the slogans are the same, day in and day out, and so therefore I can live with structure and order in my life, and I see it, even with my ups and downs, manifesting in my life and I see the changes and I like the changes. Thanks for your share

Thank you Lyne, for your service and the timely reminder.
I really love the quote... I am an apprentice... will I ever become the master? Only my HP knows, but I can bring joy to others as I practice my craft!

Remembering my deceased Ex-FIL today who was a veteran of the Korean War. He was a very strong man, who valued family above all else.
