The material presented
here is not Al-Anon Conference Approved Literature. It is a method
to exchange
information, ideas, feelings, problems and solutions on a personal
level.
Today's reading is about learning and practicing to do and be different. The writer talks about how attending meetings helps us learn new ways of working our recovery program. She attended one, and the chairperson passed around a basket full of slogan. She asked that each person take one, and try to apply it to the current day. Interestingly enough, many got a slogan that directly applied to them for that day!
The very next day, the writer was struggling with a touch problem. It was causing stress and she asked HP for help. Her mind drifted back to the basket in the meeting of the previous day, and she imagined repeating that process. She got what she needed - Easy Does It - and stopped trying to force solutions. She felt better, her thinking cleared and in time, a solution appeared.
Today's Reminder --- It is not always easy to know which Al-Anon tool to apply, especially in the middle of a crisis. I am grateful for a Higher Power who knows my needs, and for meetings that help me to find new ways to put these tools to work in my life.
Today's Quote --- "As we learn to depend upon our Higher Power through applying the Al-Anon program to our lives, fear and uncertainty are replaced by faith and confidence." from One Day at a Time in Al-Anon
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I can readily admit that I rarely know what exactly to do when faced with 'life' head on. What I do know is that Al-Anon and all it offers has taught me to pause and pray and I've never been disappointed. I may still be full of fear and uncertainty, yet I have experienced the miracle of doing the next right thing and allowing the answers and results to unfold.
When I look back, some of the most ugly, unfair, chaotic moments of 'my life' have NEVER brought about the complete destruction and devastation I projected. Most turned out just as they were supposed to, and my pushing my will into the process did not solve it.
Meetings and slogans were found to be very simple to consider, study and practice when I was new. The return on my efforts far outweighed anything I expected, and I'm grateful for the god-given desire to change through recovery. Living in gratitude is much more pleasant than living in dread, which was my constant companion prior to this program.
Make it a great day all.
Good Morning IAH I know when i first entered program and heard the slogans I "REACTED" in a very negative manner and tougght that they were quite silly ( I must add here that my negative attitude embraced everything as I was not teachable at this point.
The more I attended meetings , picked up the tools and attempted to use them in my life the more profound I found each slogan to be . Today , since I have become teachable, I see that i now live one day at a time,not judging gossiping or projecting, trusting HP with a daily gratitude list and feel that I have embraced many slogans into my every day life .
Prayers continue for you and your family.. Thanks so much for your service
Thanks for the daily IAH. Thinking back to joining program, and I had heard folks from 12-step meetings talk about slogans and steps, & I thought I just couldn't attach myself to such nonsense. HAH! Little did I know how important both of those would become to me. I find praying and asking HP for help is important, and I do believe I get the direction I need. And in the past I used to struggle to find one slogan I could apply to my day, & now I can often find several that all apply to one day. My how time changes things. Program has allowed me to change in a very positive way. Lyne
