The ODAT reading for December 26 speaks about the slogan, " let go and let God". It points out that many people think the slogan suggests that we do not take any action but simply sit back and let God do the work .
Actually the true meaning of the slogan indicates that we must use our own good sense pray on the subject, take appropriate action and then once we have taken an action stop obsessing and let go and let God.
The following quote is very powerful as it reminds us that we cannot always look to God to help us when I'm too lazy to do my share The quote seems to say all; "God helps those who help themselves
Thank you Betty for the daily, your service and ESH. What a perfect slogan for this time of year and dealing with the affects of this disease. The quote reminds me that I can act my way to right thinking but can't think my way to right action. For me, before recovery, I made all kinds of plans in my mind yet my action and patterns did not align with those thoughts. In recovery, I've been asked to take simple actions to help me change my patterns which over time has helped change my thoughts.
I am grateful that I no longer exist in a 'why me' mode, but instead focus on a 'why not me' mode. May your Tuesday be blessed - stay warm....it's cold outside here - and not getting warmer anytime soon! (((Hugs)))

(((((Betty)))))) thank you again for a great share......I revised this slogan for myself to say "stop tryng to control the uncontrolables"....as to any G-d working in my life, I never saw it, but DO see when i do my part....step back....let what is to happen happen.....and I do agree...the universe helps those who help themselves.....I remember my old sick days!!! thinking that I could just do nothing and "life" would happen FOR me w/out any efforts from me.....I have to get up, and put the energy out there then step back when my work is done.............

"Let go and let God" lets me see my Higher Power's hand in everything that happens. I can just live my life with the 'rules' that I live by (10 commandments, laws of the land, Golden Rule etc) and I don't have to worry if I am doing the right thing because I know my HP is automatically "in there" and what ever happens is how it is supposed to happen. That doesn't mean I have easy choices, but that I can rest assured that the final choice that I make is the one that I can live with because I can "let go and let God".
Two weeks ago I was presented with one of those times. It was not easy but I am sure I made the right choice after lots of arguments with the HP in my mind. My AlAnon never fails me. It reminds me always Who is in charge.... and Who to trust with the right answer.
