ODAT Reading 12-5-2017

The ODAT Reading for 12-5-2017 points out the fact attending Al-Anon meetings should become a habit and not something we do just to  try to solve one small problem.  The reading indicates that many times we learn to live and find serenity when we first enter the program and once the initial  problem is eliminated we feel we can skip meetings and have no time to read the literature or comfort newcomers. This is not so  for as long for as long we livel we will  always need Al-Anon tools in order to live a life filled with love, and interesting challenges .

The quote Is extremely powerful ,  It states that: "AA brings the drinkerr to sobriety in order to fit him too absorb the deeper meaning of the program -- Al-Anon changes our  thinking for the  same purpose

Good morning and happy Tuesday! Thank you Betty for your service and the daily. I still don't know exactly how recovery works - just grateful it does. I know that my attitude, outlook and disposition is much better when I am active in my recovery. This includes F2F meetings, literature, sponsor, service, etc. When I 'slack' for any reason, I do risk slippage in my serenity and joy.

Meetings really ground me in a way that differs a bit from other tools. So, so grateful for those who came before me who are willing to keep coming back and share their ESH . Make it a lovely day! It's darn cold here today - I believe real winter has arrived!

Good morning everyone! Thanks for the topic, Betty!

I know myself and my habits well. I will get to the point of doing well, then think "today I have so much going on, I just don't have time for ..." (doing the readings, going to meetings, going to the gym, cooking real food, etc.) When I allow myself the "I'm so busy" excuse, it turns into a pattern, and for me, that is the first step away from being healthy and taking care of myself. I found that this applies to AlAnon as well. I had been thinking about going to meetings on Tuesdays and Thursdays as well, but talked myself out of it because the meetings are a good 45 minutes away, the don't start until 6 pm, I have to be up at 4 am, I could go on with the excuses. Last week I went to a Thursday meeting, and I found my week and weekend greatly improved. I think service is like that, too. When I give more of myself to others, I have a better week.

cold and windy here today as well. We had power lines down last night because of the wind. My pup Itty (a blue heeler) let me know each and every time a power truck drove by throughout the night. Today, I am a bit sleepy but thankful for such a protective pup.

Skorpi - your 'pup' share made me chuckle. My old faithful girl, Layla, lets me know when a UPS truck in in the hood! I am so grateful they do their business by day vs. by night....

We had incredible winds yesterday, last night and they continue today. I'm grateful that we have no damage that I know of! Stay safe...

Thank you, Betty, for your service.

What a wonderful reminder today! I had shared in another post how the first time I came to Al-Anon, I "got what I wanted" and then allowed myself to move away from working the program. What a mistake!
This time around, I am finding that I am understanding the need for regular "working" of this program. I am finding that I am using the tools in ALL AREAS OF MY LIFE!

Cold and windy in So Cal! LOVE this weather!
