Hope for Today (9/8/17)

Good morning and Happy Friday MIP Family!  I believe my little people hid my Courage to Change book - I can't find it!!  Thank goodness that our toolkit includes more than one daily reader!

Today's reading discusses the 'priceless gift of serenity' we get when we embrace recovery and work this program as best we can.  It talks about coming to Al-Anon, and finally finding peace.  The writer had a painful childhood and then discusses how her marriage was affected by what she enduring as a child.  She expected her husband and children to fill the void left from her childhood and tried to be the perfect wife, perfect mother, perfect ....

The reading today discusses how we can use the tools given to seek and keep that priceless gift of serenity.  Some tools include slogans such as - Live and Let Live...Keep Coming Back is also stated often as it does work when we work it.

The quote for today is from "Courage to Change" ---  "We see that none of the time that passed was wasted, although we didn't know it, we were quietly absorbing the program."

The thought for the Day --  If I "keep coming back", I'll get what I need to fill my empty spaces.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I know of nobody who came to recovery well.  We usually arrive sick and tired of being sick and tired.  We have spent more time than desired trying to control, fix or change others.  Serenity is a word we've heard but rarely if ever experienced.  For me, I thought those who spoke of peace of mind and serenity must be monks hidden away on a mountain never having to endure 'life'.
What Al-Anon has given me is all the tools I need to have and keep peace in my body, mind and soul.  I have come to accept I am here to be of service and to experience 'life' as it happens.  I am no more or no less blessed than most people and we are all imperfect.  I can be whole if I pursue a spiritual journey and never have to feel abandoned or alone again.
If I let it begin with me and separate myself from those around me, I am exactly where I should be.  I am glad recovery has given me what I need to find peace of mind and be an equal on this planet.
Happy Friday to one and all - make it a great day....
Great Topic IAH  I was just speaking with a sponsee, this morning regarding serenity.  I mentioned that when I first entered program I can remember hearing people talk about serenity and thinking serenity sounds very boring I don't think I want it.
Proceeding to work the program steps, slogans, meetings, one day, deep within I felt the most wonderful warm peaceful feeling one  that  I had never experienced before, and when I explained it to my sponsor.she said it sounds like:" serenity".I knew at that moment that serenity was something I would treasure if I ever attained it for longer than a second .  Good news is that I did and resolved that I would guard it  and protect it with all my Al-Anon tools, and I have,
I must note that this is not an easy  task. however, I found that Living one day at a time, trusting HP, responding and not reacting, letting go of judgment, blame and criticism have all helped me in this endeavor.
Do hope you can find you. C2C and have a lovely day. Thanks always for your service
