Today's page begins with a Chinese proverb, "When we talk of tomorrow, the gods laugh."
I can live only one day at a time, one moment at a time. My mind, however, can get carried away with concerns of tomorrow even though the only certainty is that there is none.
Worrying, planning, and analyzing the future do nothing to ensure outcomes, but can distract me from the serenity of today, now.
Reminder: I need not let my fears about tomorrow take away peace today. By letting them go, I make room for growth, joy, and gratitude. I can make today the most fully alive day I can experience.
"Do not be anxious about tomorrow: tomorrow will look after itself." - Bible
********************
Before I tried living one day at a time in recovery I was rarely able to enjoy the moment because I was too concerned with trying to plan for anything/everything that could happen tomorrow. I didn't want to be caught off guard, so was usually carrying worst case scenarios in my head.
As if losing my own peace wasn't bad enough, I often acted on those fears by trying to get others to be prepared for things as I thought I was, constantly coaching or criticizing. No one was happy...
Restricting myself to what I can control, one day at a time makes a huge difference in my sense of peace and serenity. So many times my doom and gloom worries never transpire, and things work themselves out without my interference; if there was need for action or decision I have better clarity and perspective with which to act.
So grateful for the wisdom of the program

Hi Paul a very important reminder about being in the moment and day. I am leaving shortly for a cruise from Rome and have been looking forward to it for a time. I woke up yesterday with a terrible cold and have no energy to travel. Glad that I packed a few days ago when i was healthy. I am taking cold pills and know once I start moving I will begin to feel better. If this had unfolded years ago I would be so very angry and disappointed but today , thanks to program and truly living one day at a time I can accept disappointment and continue moving forward. See you all in 2 weeks . :) Thanks for your service
Thank you for Today's Reminder Paul on living in the day. It is so much simpler when I stay in Today and stay present. What is going to happen will happen whether I worry about it or not so why waste the time? Some days are better than others but after having 2 heart attacks, All days are a blessing to me and there can always be some joy if I am willing to look. Betty, speedy recovery and have a wonderful vacation in Rome.
Good morning to the M IP family. My apologies in advance if there are typos. Using voice service while driving.
Thank you Paul for your service and this daily. Thank you all for your shares. Life goes better for me when I stay present and live one day at a time. Constant reminders help me to stay here, and now.
Have a wonderful trip Betty... Sending prayers for fast healing. Excited for you as this sounds like a trip of a lifetime. Have a blast.
Make it a great day all.

Good morning all! Thank you, Enigmatic for today's message with your thoughts on the topic. This message could not be more perfect for me. We had been away for a week vacationing and this morning my hubby is getting a new hip. I also have been dealing with some health issues, and will be going for more tests/follow-ups next week. Oh, my mind really wants to move forward to uncertainty and dread and worse case scenarios! So, reading the lit and reading others' posts on just staying in today is just what I need!
Betty, how wonderful about your cruise! ENJOY! I bet you will be feeling much better very soon.....just a little blip to getting there!
IAH, safe travels and a good trip to you!
Sunny and into the high 80s today in western NY. Although, I won't be out in it, nice weather raises the spirits, regardless.
...and One Day at a Time is even better in Rome! What a fabulous destination, I understand the disappointment with feeling 100%. With a little time and some good meds, however, that boot doesn't stand a chance!

Prayers Ellen for you and your hubbie (and his new hip)....my parents each have a replacement hip and are both very glad they are on the other side. The have replaced knees too but really are very healthy for their ages!
I made it to AZ - it was windy as all get-out driving to the airport. The take-off was the bumpiest I've ever experienced and the landing was also a bit of an experience. The poor gal sitting next to me just kept saying, I wish I would have taken my Xanax - after about the 5th time, I said I wish you had too!
We laughed about it but she was very anxious. She was in the middle seat and me and the guy on the window side did all that we could to calm her, distract her and make the trip as pleasant as possible.
Grateful to be here and vacation has started!!! It's windy here too - crazy wild winds everywhere! (((Hugs))) to all!

and 'bon voyage', to y'all, Betty... ...hoping y'all have a jolly good time! ...
...along the way, in the rooms, I picked up the words... the what-ifs, and the if-onlys. This was wisdom indeed as it nailed my condition. Locked up in a kind of time warp- trapped like a butterfly on the end of a pin.
I had to let go of all the stuff that had brought me to this point. This has taken time. I found myself in an open sharing group with an Aa member- the hubby of my nominal sponsor. Looking back I was actually sponsored by an AA member. We both had green 12x12's- one for AA and one for Alanon.
For a long time I thought the programme wasn't working. Maybe I was looking the a zap-zap experience. Looking back, i had had that experience long before I started in the programme. It hadn't changed my life around. I was still in a living hell. So Alanon was the helicopter that my higher power sent along for me... ...
I was looking out my window this morning- from over the kitchen bench.I do a bit of poetry sometimes, but all I came up with is this.
Being present is a great blessing. I believe our higher power speaks clearly when we are still.
