ODAT Reading for 1-29-2017

ODA T reading for January 29  speaks about being obligated to help others because of our common humanity.  The reading points out that we should not do for them what they can and should do for themselves.  Mutual dependence is one of the comforts and rewards of marriage each partner must do his job  and carry his own responsibilities. If  the alcoholic fails in his duties my assuming them only weaken his will to do his  share

We must detach ourselves from the shortcomings of others.  We must  play our own role and leave others to their role. If they fail. It is their  failure not mine.

The quote is from Marcus Aurelius; "for though we are made especially for the sake of one another, still each of us has his own tasks. Otherwise another's fault would harm me, which God has not willed in order that my happiness may not be dependent on another"

I do believe that growing up. I believed my happiness depended on others and it was by making  a great effort of working the steps listening  in meetings that this attitude has been changed and I understand that I am responsible for my own happiness.  Thank you alanon

Thanks Betty for the daily and your service,
This is great awareness for me also.
That I can and should be happy ,not depending on others for my happiness.
I can be happy all by myself, loving myself, enjoying life to its fullest.

Thanks Betty for the daily, your service and your ESH.....that quoted above really spoke to me this morning.  What a simple, yet profound statement that I'm going to focus on for today.

I still find it so hard to watch those I love be damaged deeply by this disease.  I'm in the letting go and letting God again mode, and have my serenity.  Yet, my sadness is real and I must feel the feelings and not let them become facts in my thinking.

Make it a great day - I'm off to my Sunday meeting shortly!  (((Hugs))) to all.
