Today is Christmas day. We are experiencinga small crisis here. Our wood stove is setting off the smoke detector. I am very anxious just because of the holiday. So you can see that some things are harder when it is this day is not exactly the best day to get something fixed. Hopefully this problem goes away w the smoke. I think we might have a solution. Please pray for good outcome. I also hope that this won't ruin our day.I also hope thatyou are having a nice & serene holiday.
If smoke comes out the door when you open it, that means something is preventing the smoke from going out the chimney-something mechanical, ie, the damper somehow isn't opening? bird nest or other obstruction in chimney? Sounds lime you need a chimney sweep (obviously no one is coming today I know)
We've had problems like this before too. Open a window near the stove before opening the stove's door. Sometimes the outside air is too cold and the smoke won't go up the chimney correctly. If that doesn't work, then don't use the stove until the chimney is cleaned. It has an obstruction and needs to be cleaned before using it again. Wood stove chimneys need to be cleaned every week or so depending on the type of wood you are using. Soft woods and lightly seasoned woods require more cleaning.
