The material presented
here is not Al-Anon Conference Approved Literature. It is a method
to exchange
information, ideas, feelings, problems and solutions on a personal
level.
The C2C reading for November 19 speaks about how we felt when we first enter Al-Anon and the soul sickness that brings us into the rooms. The reading indicates that we come because we think we're going to learn how to fix our loved ones because Alcoholism has affected our lives in such a powerful way. We soon discover Al-Anon offers even more then we expected .
We were probably very disappointed that Al-Anon didl not tell us how to fix the alcoholic but instead gave us tools so we could heal and grow.
After attening meetings for a time we find that it is no longer enough simply to survive, as we have been doing. The principles and tools that we find in the rooms, help us to create an interesting and rich life. We are learning to thrive .
When we say that we are grateful member of Al-Anon , we are not zeroing in on one particular problem but rather participating in a whole host of important solutions that can lead to emotional, physical and spiritual benefits in our lives. As we continue on, this never ending path of spiritual progress,we can expand our view of recovery.
The quote is from the 12 steps and 12 traditions; "in Al-Anon we believe life is for growth, both mental and spiritual."
Love this reminder that we continue to grow spiritually as we keep showing up . Please enjoy your day and remember to be gentle with yourself
Thank you Betty for your service, ESH and today's daily! I can so relate to the arrival at Al-Anon. I came because I wanted a cure/fix for my qualifier(s). I was actually a bit angry when it was suggested I focus on me and let them be/do as they will. It took me a while to break through my own denial and ego and see that I contributed to the chaos/drama that was my home.
In time, I did come to feel better and hear more. In time, I found moments of peace and serenity and wanted more. In time, I was able to love myself again, and therefore love others as they are. I stopped blaming the disease and the diseased by working the steps and found a desire to live a spiritual way. Today, I am grateful for my qualifiers, this disease and my recovery. Who would have thought it?
Grateful that this program has opened my heart, ears and mind. Each day I learn something new - about me, about life or about peace.
(((Hugs)))
