One Day at a Time


I have always struggled with staying in the present, I always plan for the future. Wether it be next month or three years from now. I don't start thinking from the beginning, I start thinking about the end result. I've noticed if I don't have a plan in place I get anxious. I'd say this need for control stems from my A Mother and the 8 placements I had before I turned Nine. I'm thankful to God for bringing my foster mother into my life when I was Nine, she has been by my side for the last 14 years and into the future. She's always been my constant. I just realised it's a year to date tomorrow that I started going to face to face meeting. From today I'm putting One Day at a Time into action.

Great share Miss A. I too struggle with staying in the moment as I live in the wreckage of tomorrow (something I read in one of the literature books). I was always trying to predict tomorrow and the worst case scenario so I wouldn't be hurt/disappointment if things didn't go my way. Just wanted to say you are not alone. I too passed the one year mark a few months ago. I thank god that I found al-anon when I did.

Nice thoughts, ma'am... I used to feel like a bridge, strung out between the what-ifs, and the if-onlys... blankstare...

   being in the present, and joining the rest of the world, has bin a great boon to me... aww...

I too send warm welcomes to you MissA - so glad you found us and glad you joined right in. For me, practicing One Day at a Time and other Al-Anon tools really help me with anxiety over what may happen tomorrow. Please keep coming back - there is hope and help in recovery!!
